Which DUers would you like to meet in real life?

Not intending to put up a popularity thread...

I was just thinking, there's always a few posters that stand out to people. The lists likely aren't the same for everybody. I frankly like meeting all DUers that I run across, and I've been lucky enough to meet a bunch of them that I have hit it off with very well. Nevertheless I would love to have an extended dinner conversation with these people:

GirlInContempt: She always has something profound to say, and always manages to deliver it in a way that is both interesting and entertaining.

ProfessorGAC: One of the most intelligent people I believe I have ever run across. He has an amazing ability to cut through the rhetoric and lay out the issues with clarity and precision. Plus, maybe he will tell me where he gets his cigars!

ET Awful: Also an engaging and intelligent poster, and one that manages to convey a sense of calm and relaxation throughout.

And of course there's others too. These are just the people that stick out in my mind right now. Who is on your list?

FUNDAY is a non-political event. Sure, you can find a political discussion if you're looking for one (and, sure, the vast majority of folks here are Democrats), bur we try to leave all that behind for the day.
Example: We do a twelve-hour FUNDAY RADIO soundtrack for the party each year. Six hours of it are put together by my friend Chip -- a longtime radio jock and a born-again Christian (though, as he told me once, "Don't worry, John -- I'm not going to whip out 'The Old Rugged Cross' on you." So far he hasn't). The other six hours are recorded by Andy the Right Wing Republican* and me, in tandem. We have an old rule that says we don't ever discuss politics while doing it.
So tell Mrs. Dave not to sweat the politics. We'll talk about anything she wants to talk about. Or she can just relax and listen to all the cool music (and we're still taking requests).

However, what brought this up was: I was thinking of a post you made some time ago, talking about "favorite places" or something, where you were describing the marshlands around DC. Very descriptive.

If you have a local park or some other natural area where you like to spend time, and can afford at least 15 minutes of time for each day you participate, they're glad to hear from you. :-)

And yes, there are some wonderful swampy and marshy areas around DC. Mr GoG and I have enjoyed squishing around some of the public lands in knee-high boots! Say, if you like swamps, check out "Stirring the Mud" by Barbara Hurd. I've rarely learned so much from something so aesthetically written!

I also always wanted to be a wetland biologist, however, I never was able to steer my career in that direction and ended up with aquaculture training.:(

My sad story:

I tried to get into wetland research coming out of my bachelor's degree, but the only program I could get into that would fund me was an aquaculture project. However, since it was with crayfish, I thought I would be able to use the experience anyway. I studied mostly biological and statistical subjects so as to be useful for things other than aquaculture. Still, because it was a naquacuture degree, everyone assumes that I am an aquaculturalist, and really I don't have any interest in it. When I got out there were no jobs to speak of, and after a year I took a doctoral program because once again, it was funded. I ended up studying aquatic invertebrates, but it was under the aegis of veterinary science for fish diseases, so again it looked like an aquaculture program on the surface.

Net result: I have a masters and a doctorate that say to employers that I am an aquaculturalist, but I'm not and really have no interest in it. And with the typical kinds of hiring procedures in fed and state agencies, I can't demonstrate where my interests or knowledge really is. It's frustrating.

Back to the other subject, Dyke Marsh is quite nice. I think you'll like it. There's a nice peninsula of land that extends out into the Potomac. Always lots of birds and other critters there.
