If they're healthy goals, keep working at them as long as you can. If they're flights of fancy, it may be time to let them go.
The hard part is telling the two apart honestly.

when things turn out better. You need dreams, but you also need realistic dreams, and you have to have dreams to aim for but not necessarily ever reach the ultimate wow goal. But you might. But if you don't, and the dreams are realistic, keep trying and be happy with where you are and who you are, the trip as well as the ending.
