I joined the Manners Police . ( must vent about my job ) |
|
And today I have a warrant for the arrest of people who walk into the cafeteria of my job cursing up a storm about who they did over the weekend , what b better have their food , why won't such and such answer their MF phone - ugh and you know what the worse thing is ? Majority of these people are females . I can't believe this company hired people like that . I just don't like loud uncalled for cursing . Especially when I am eating . Shut up ! Ok I am done , just needed to vent .
Ok I am not done . I like my job although its not my career but the stupid people there are being a nuisance - bad apples spoiling all over the place and I blame it on the manager for letting these people continue to rot . So many mistakes everyday that need to be fixed that we never get the work that we are supposed to be done and sometimes we have to come in on the weekends . ( Saturdays and Sundays , I live " on call " with this job . I can never plan my weekends until Fridays . ) I need a vacation , I work with idiots I swear . Stupid people who want me to fix everything for them and look at me as if I said water just went extinct when I tell them that it is not in my jurisdiction to fix their careless mistakes . I swear I am being Punked everyday . The same mistakes being made every single day . I feel like I am the only one who cares . And you know what else I hate , when someone does'nt take me seriously because of my age . I am 25 years old , and people tell me all the time I look way younger but still , don't judge my cover . I hate it HYATE it when someone asks me something and I give them the answer , and then they look at the person ( presumably older than me who does'nt know either ) beside me with a stupid blank stare as if to say " is CarolinaPeridot right ? " - If you don't believe me , don't ask me . Thats irritating . Again I like my job , I am just like WTF are all these dumbasses still here for . I swear someone is Punking someone somewhere somehow . Ok I needed to vent . Thanks for listening .

2. At 25, perhaps you're still too young to have perfected |
|
that sympathetic little smile that says to the idiots in your midst, "You, tacky person, had a _very_ different sort of upbringing than I. How _unfortunate_ for you."

3. Do you think that I might be a little stuck up ? |
|
I don't know some things are uncalled for . Maybe I was raised differently .

4. Good grief, no, I don't think you're stuck up. |
|
I think we live in a world populated by people who, for a variety of reasons, are just uncivil. I was raised a lot like you, I'm betting, which is how and why I've cultivated that sympathetic little smile that says so little while saying so much.

Practice it. You'll get good at it, if you were raised anywhere near the South.

7. I've been there. It's extremely difficult to live with. Luckily,... |
|
my company was sold a few years ago, and the people who had that attitude were fired and everyone else realized that they needed to have a more professional attitude or else they'd be next to go.
One example of how bad it was is that I worked over 70 hours a week ( I was salary, so I didn't get paid more), and my boss told me that I was making her look bad because I was working so much. She'd have looked much, much worse if I hadn't been getting the work done. Much of our problem was that we had to redo work because people gave us bad information.
I actually wished my youth away because people resented my success and professionalism when I was young. Don't let them do that to you!

8. It's people like that who make HR people necessary |
|
I had to attend a mandatory sexual harassment class recently for my job and I gotta tell you, for the most part, the stuff covered was just stupid stuff that should be common sense and courtesy for people. Unfortunately, not too many people seem to have either. On the one hand, it seems ridiculous to me that our company can call someone on the carpet for sharing a sympathetic hug with a co-worker who lost her son - on the other hand, it's people like the ones you're talking about that make it necessary for lines to be drawn somewhere.
Freedom of speech doesn't apply to private businesses (or message boards, for that matter) and having people walking around cursing like sailors can put plenty of people off their feed as well as offend. It makes for an uncomfortable working experience for some.
Why do they call it common sense when so few people seem to have any?

9. You are completely right |
|
The workplace, whether it be in a cafeteria or in the actual office need to watch their mouth. If they want to talk like that at home or around their friends away from the office that is their priority but those people represent your company and should have more respect for where they work

10. It's the wave of the future!!!!!! I'm a high school teacher.... |
|
(Right now it's exam week and I have no kids this block).... BUT this year more than others I have had more kids say things like "I don't know you, you can't tell me what to do" OR "Fuck you bitch, I'm not taking my hat off" OR "Go to hell, I talk on my cell phone and listen to my Ipod even right in the middle of your class" OR "You can't fail me bitch..... My momma will beat your ass."
..... Keep in mind that although this a minority..... even a few bad apples.....
We can't blame them.... sometimes when I meet parents, I see what the problem is.... they haven't been TAUGHT HOW TO BEHAVE!!!!! ... but man those shoes and that hair look great!!!!
..... My mom would have seen to it that I was rotting in a shallow grave in Norfolk, Va. right now if I were to speak to an adult that way when I was in school.

11. Just tell them to STFU! :-D |
|
Seriously though, you are the only one that can change your reaction to their actions, you can't change their actions, but you can change the fact that it bothers you. All your power rests in the moments between their action and your reaction, don't give that power to them. If someone doesn't trust your opinion, that is THEIR problem, not yours. You know you are doing the right thing, that is what you have control over. And as long as you keep doing that, you can be happy. If someone is cursing loudly, that is their problem. If you choose to let it go and ignore it, then you will be happier.
It's not an easy process to do, (trust me, I KNOW) and it takes some practice to get it to work for you, but I guarantee, if you stop and think "does it TRULY affect me" and realize that they really aren't hurting you at all, life will be much more enjoyable.
Good luck!
