Why do people think jeans are comfortable?
They've become the casual uniform, but I think they bind -- a longish skirt feels more way comfortable to me (with undies or bike shorts underneath in the summer, comfy tights + boots in the winter).

Even shorts can get uncomfortable "down there". I was in Venice for work, and had to be available at 30 minutes notice to interview people, otherwise I was free to tour and explore. Wore a nice elastic-waist gauze skirt with bike shorts underneath, and could not have been more comfortable in the heat. If I had been there as a tourist, I would have worn shorts, which get hot around the waist, and the seams chafe.

The only time jeans are the absolute best option is for trail riding - I'm happy to trade the comfort of leggings or sweatpants for the protection that denim affords.

1. I dunno thats all I wear
other than when I'm in a groove and put on my one pair of cargos so I guess I can't really give you a guage on comfort

I do have to adjust my crotch from time to time

Although I have the legs for a skirt. ;)

I prefer shorts, but jeans work when it's too cold for shorts or if I'm going somewhere requiring pants.

I do have to "adjust" them now and again, of course, but they sure beat dress pants.

And I don't like sweat pants. I do have a couple pairs of HiVent Wind pants that i wear now every now and then, but that's about it.

I'm always in trousers (don't own a pair of shorts either), and there's nothing uncomfortable about them; but just feeling jeans the material is so stiff that I can barely imagine having to walk round wearing them.

they do start out stiff, but don't stay that way.

By far, my jeans are my most comfortable pants.

My biggest problem is finding any short enough. They don't make jeans with a 27" inseam. I have to have mine custom-hemmed.

12. Jeans that actually fit can be more comfortable...
But they're awfully hot for Houston. Knee length or longer skirts are a better choice. Actually, the current fashion for warmish weather is NO panty hose--which is fine with me. (Not recommended with mini-skirts!) I made an informal study in Houston's tunnel system last summer--that's were downtown office workers lunch & shop to avoid the hideous weather. There were sensible ladies in semi-orthopedic sandals & chic young things in high-heeled sandals. But only the few remaining "dress for success" clones in suits wore hose.

As for tourists--why do so many wear baggy shorts & t-shirts? Especially over bodies that are already a bit baggy? Even more especially--when touring cities and/or visiting countries where a "dressed" look is more respectful? Skirts are more comfortable & adaptable.

This only applies to ladies, though. I'd think the traditional kilt would be a bit, err, scratchy. Especially when worn traditionally.

But from what I see most people wear their jeans waaaay too tight, so that could be why people
think they are uncomfortable.

18. Easy solution - don't wear them
If your jeans bind, they probably don't fit right. But you don't have to wear them, just like I don't have to wear skirts.

Why do people have to criticise things that other people like? Why not just wear what YOU like? :eyes:

jeans may not be more comfortable than the skirt, but in real life, being able to sit how i like and fidget how i like, especially on an airplane or in an office chair or really any public place, means that the skirts gotta go

there is such a thing as psychological comfort, in the skirt i've got to be constantly aware of what is showing or if i'm going up escalators who's looking up my skirt and i'm restricted to sitting certain ways unless i want to be a rude slut and flash my undies to whoever, in the skirt i can't be decent and put my feet up, a crucial technique to being comfortable over a long period of time when sitting

bike shorts are never comfortable so that is not real, i can't even believe you are trying to say bike shorts under a skirt are a real alternative, if you think jeans bind, what do bike shorts do, they fit you like a second skin -- one that doesn't breathe!

sweatpants, yoga pants, etc. may be better than jeans as far as physical comfort but again, psychological comfort, they look sloppy and like you're trying to hide some weight

a properly fitted pair of jeans are often the v. best compromise bet. physical and psychological comfort, freedom -- being able to sit how i like and put my feet up how i like and still look like i didn't just waddle out of the maternity ward -- yeah, i try the others but in the end jeans are still usually the best

my answer may be influenced by the fact that i only buy second hand jeans that are properly broken in and soft as silk but w. denim's toughness, you just can't beat that for comfort really

21. Because they are?
I have at least eight pairs of jeans, and that does not count cropped pants and shorts.

When I find a pair that fits well, looks good, and feels great - I buy a couple pairs. If your jeans bind, then the size or cut is not right for you.

You won't catch me wearing a long skirt. Long skirts do not flatter me at all. Personally - I'm not a fan of bike shorts, because I think they bind. When I work out, I usually wear cut-off sweats.

26. I don't bring jeans when traveling. They're too bulky, take too long
to dry and aren't versatile enough. I wear skirts and dark pants when traveling.

However, at work I wear jeans almost every day. Long skirts get caught in the wheels of my desk chair, shorter skirts ride up when I sit down. Plus I'm a designer so I work with blades, adhesives, ink, paint, etc. Jeans can take a lot more abuse than my nicer clothes. I can still wear a pair of jeans that have some paint or ink on them, or a bit of fraying.

33. That's what makes them so great for riding
They can get ripped-at by branches and still do a great job protecting the skin.

You sound like one of my friends, who is an artist, too. Actually she's a scenic designer and lived in jeans and tee-shirts, usually covered by paint. She showed up at a party in a new pair of khakis, a clean yellow t-shirt, and (shockingly!) matching yellow shoes. I mentioned my surprise at how coordinating her outfit was, and she cracked up -- they weren't yellow shoes -- they were canvas sneakers, completely covered in yellow paint, which my friend hadn't even noticed. "But look!" she said proudly, "look at my hands!" The nails were almost blue with paint or ink, but her hands, for once, were actually flesh-colored.

I always wear dress slacks. They're lighter weight than jeans, and they last me years. (Now, i don't do any silvermining or anything.) I think they're way more comfortable than jeans in medium warm weather. My wife prefers capris or a skirt to them too.

We're just stuck-up snobs i guess.

46. My one friend loved the bullpen at the Vet
she would hang out there, and eventually one of the guys would suggest she meet them after the game at some bar. She never went through with any of the propositions, just enjoyed the attention (we were in our 20's then)

Alas, I'm too old now to "Chase" ballplayers, but a girl can fantasize!

True story: when I was going through sorority rush, everyone told me not to join this one sorority, because there was this crazy psychopathic liar who claimed -- get this -- to be dating George Brent. As if. This was a state school in the middle of cow country - not L.A. I joined anyway, and Labor Day weekend, she approached the pledges and asked if anyone wanted to drive with her out to Kansas City with her. Two girls went, and they all ended up spending the weekend at George Brent's house. Two years later, the rumor went around school that she was so psychopathic, she actually lied about dating Bucky Dent. Again with the road trip, and again with reports of spending the weekend hanging out with Bucky Dent. I never knew what to tell people outside the sorority: "Lisa? She's not crazy - she's just a baseball groupie!"

Not trying to make anyone wear anything -- I was just saying I don't get the appeal.

I'm this oddity that changes OUT of jeans as soon as I get home, and change into something *I* consider more comfortable. If I could wear a gauze dress every day of my life, I'd be a happy camper

49. Don't ever hike in jeans!
One April I went with a group of friends to Yosemite Nat'l Park and we went up the Mist trail, which was very wet that April with they spray from the falls going every which way. My jeans were so soaked I couldn't walk up those stone steps (you know what I'm talking about if you've been there...they are slippery on sunny days). So my family and friends were up at the top and I had to hang around the bottom of the falls in the cold shade. Finally, I had enough of the cold and went back down the trail and hung out in Happy Valley.
