I get great sleep at night, and then spend my waking hours yawning, and basically feeling like the walking dead.

6. It's _always_ like that when I dream about painting.
The "up" side is that I wake up with _lots_ of good ideas, so intricately detailed in my dreams that I can go right to the studio and carry them out, fueled by adrenalin alone.

8. Yeah, it drives me nuts
Every day off, I feel like a zombie. The problem is, I get up for work at 3:20 in the morning. I'm NOT going to get up that early on my day off but I can't stay up past 9:00 even if I don't have to get up the next day - I'm just too used to going to bed early. So I end up sleeping until about 7 which is a good 10 hours and I feel like a train wreck.

Almost makes it a wash to have a day off. :grr:

11. Question: Are you able to breath freely through your nose?
If your breathing is impaired so that you have to breath through your mouth, that can easily cause what you've described. I had the same problem. I'm now an Afrin junkie. (Not a good solution to the problem since Afrin can actually cause the problem after a few days.) :(

12. People who sleep too much may also suffer the consequences
check this out:

Specifically, investigators at the University of California in San Diego found that people who clock up 9 or 10 hours each weeknight appear to have more trouble falling and staying asleep, as well as a host of other sleep problems, than people who sleep 8 hours a night.

People who slept only 7 hours each night also said they had more trouble falling asleep and feeling refreshed after a night's sleep than 8-hour sleepers.

These findings, reported in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, demonstrate that people who want to get a good night's rest may not need to set aside more than 8 hours a night, study author Dr. Daniel Kripke told Reuters Health.

13. Hi Squatch
If this is standard operating procedure for your life, I'd be a bit concerned, frankly. You might want to get that looked into b/c you could have some apnea issues going on, which would contribute to your exhaustion during the day. Just a thought.

There could be other reasons, too, of course. On the other hand, maybe you're getting too much sleep and waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle.

:hi:

14. Sleeping disorders
you may suffer from one or more, which would disrupt sound sleep. You wouldn't even necessarily know that you're not completely asleep.

Restless Legs Syndrome
Sleep Bruxism
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
PLMD
Sleep Walking

You may need to have a sleep study done.

15. Stress
always makes me want to sleep more than i normally do so if you are under intense stress then that could be why you wake up still tired. If you aren't and you are always tired, I also recommend going to see a doctor however i myself sometimes wake up tired after a good night rest so see how it goes and make your decision from there.

18. You sure you ARE getting "great" sleep?
You might have obstructive sleep apnea where your airway gets flaccid and closes partially or completely. If it is mild you won't know it, but the arousals keep you from going into deep sleep. If it is more severe, you will find yourself waking up suddenly all night long, using the bathroom, sensing doom and gloom, dreaming about suffocating, etc.

CSA can be a fatal problem. The dr explained it to me that it is just like putting your hand over a vacuum hose. Eventually the motor stresses and burns out.

If you keep having the problem of feeling unrested during the day, see your doctor. It is most common in overweight post-menopausal women, and men of any age who have large necks from athletic days. Also a thin young man can get it because of physical abnormalities in the airway, mouth, tongue, etc. Don't ever rule it out. It is too dangerous.

I have it and didn't know it for 15 years. I am STILL catching up on my sleep. I use a cpap machine that is very comfortable and I sleep 9 hours straight through.
