A very blue area in a sea of red. OB's main landmark is a headshop "The Black" and "The OB People's Market" is the main grocery outlet. Every wednesday they close down the main street and run a farmers market/street fair with shops, food, produce, fresh bread and live Rock n Roll.
If you've ever been to OB you would know that its a state of mind, man!

Although a Starbucks did open there 3 years ago. We protested but they still opened the joint.

5. no, but any new condos seem to have a problem not catching fire

during construction.

Weed is sold in the open, by the pier and the cops let it slide.
They have the attitude that stoned people are too baked to bother others and commit crimes.
The crime rate is low in OB.

4. Gotta love a place where the major landmark is a headshop

When you first arrive in San Diego, go west on the 8 until you get to water, turn left and you are in a place that's about as close to paradise as you'll find on this planet. I lived in OB for several years--I should've stayed.

My kids are grown, I just got a great job.....
Always wanted to live there and to be an Obecian.

11. Many of us have done that trying to get to "Black's Beach". Nude beach!

Back in 1980, I was trying to impress my then-girlfriend, who eventually became my wife, when I tried venture down the cliffs carrying a steel Coleman cooler, on a windy day, with Vertigo.
Lets just say I wiped out near the bottom after freezing about six times on the way down, due to strong winds on the cliffside.
She married me just the same.
