Does this sound like a scam? If so what kind?
I got a postcard today that said:

University Award Center

Claim no: XXXXXX

times of business
M-f....

Please call within 24 hours of receipt

1800XXXXXXX

So I called and they said that I've won my choice between a 27 inch TV, a DVD player, an Ipod, a cruise, and a 2 week stay at a resort. All I have to do is go to a 45 minute presentation tomorrow night and bring the card and ID.

So what's the deal folks, am I going to be short a kidney by thursday or working for scientologists?

1. It's a police sting.
What have you done?

3. You gotta be shitting me, like the free boat giveaway in Simpsons.
If the police wanted me, they know where I live from the DMV, why go through the trouble?

7. I've actually head of them sending some sort of notification to their
relatives that they have won something, and they need to show up at XXX address to pick it up. They then nab 'em as they walk in the door to pick up their free gift.

Obviously, that is for people they cannot find by looking them up in the phone book. :7

2. It is probably a presentation for time shares.
Don't go. They will crucify you. Not worth it.

8. Yes, but it will be longer than 45 minutes.
They may grill you, but don't relent and there is nothing they can do.

4. Hard Sell

I doubt the presentation will be 45 minutes (probably much longer), and they're probably going to try to sign you up for a time share or something. These are the WORST sales presentations imaginable. They lock you in a room and don't take "no" for an answer. You'll be surrounded by horrendously annoying and offensive people who don't shut up.

5. Time share or Vacation Club
You will win the two week stay (but there is a catch...there will be fees associated with the "prize")

9. I had something similiar..
I signed up for a bridal thing before I got married. I got a call saying that all I had to do to win my vacation to the bahamas was to go to a seminar. It was a pots and pans sale and I read a TON on the internet that people went said no and never got anything, or was pressured to buy $1000 worth of junk pots and pans you can find anywhere for $20.

Stay far far away!
