Let's reverse it, where in Germany can one find the best American food? |
|
I'd say around Kaiserslautern is the only area with places half-way acceptable.(*)
*Not counting McD, PizzaHut, Dunkin Donuts, Subways et al.

The original question was for generic "German" food as well :P .
New England style is hopeless; clams are pretty much impossible to obtain. (sometime as canned chowder; no thanks) TexMex is pretty easy to find, sometimes even good. Cajun is hard to find, but a few Cuban places are in the genre.

3. When I was living in Kaiserslautern |

There used to be a small restaurant in/near Einsiedlerhof that had passable American cuisine. It was many years ago and I can't remember the name.

6. How can you not count those places? They are the epitome of America!! |
|
KFC - finger lickin' good, with a slaveowner icon, and artery-cloggin' to match all that finger-lickin'... hmmm, I think I'll ditch the whipped cream and go for an extra crispy spicy bucket o' 12-pack...

8. Dammit! The Colonel never owned slaves. He did shoot at a competitor... |

once, but he never owned any slaves. I don't get where people get the idea that a man born in 1890 owned slaves! I once had to convince a friend of this.

7. KaDeWe was the only place I ever found grape jelly, which is essential... |
|
for american P.B and J.
But as far as restaurants go, I'd have to say the funniest thing I ever saw was the Planet Hollywood across the street from Munich's Hofbraeuhaus. I could just imagine the fighting between parents who want some huge beers and a chicken and their children who would of course pick that moment to decide that the only food they could face would be a cheeseburger and how cool it would be to go to planet hollywood.

The supermarkets in the RheinMain area are pretty well stocked as well. They usually carry the essentials from grape jelly, over artificial maple sirup to Reese's cups.

10. Why would one want to do that? |
|
When you can eat all the wienerschnitzel you want, who need American/British cuisine?
