While we're looking for recipes- Cousin Redstone-
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 07:10 PM by Sugar Smack
Where's your secret tomato sandwich recipe? You have this secret condiment or mayo that you put on it that I believe we all need to know about again! :9

It sounded delicious but I was too lazy to bookmark the thread. How lazy is that?

2. I'll make sure I get it from Mrs. Redstone for ya.
He's talking about having a meet-up BBQ this summer.
I'm going to take an extra helmet when I ride over on my trike because Redstone said his son would like to go for a ride on the back.

But ~ I'm sure you'll have the recipe long before then.

8. Hey, when you come over for the BBQ, could you maybe take a little
detour so you can pick up Sugar and bring her with? That would only be about 400 miles out of your way, and it would be worth it to see the two of you stylin' down the road...trikealicious!

Seriously, the BBQ is still on the we-really-want-to-do-it-but-we-just-need-to-figure-out-when calendar, and we'd EXPECT to see you here. And the Little Guy would be beside himself for a chance to go for a Trike ride. He'd babble about it for weeks.

And when you do come visit, remember that we're big on highway safety; you will NOT be riding home that night. We have lots of crash space:

I'm really looking forward to having a shindig here this summer. Can't wait for Mrs R to meet you all, and you all to meet her.

19. It's 700 miles one way for me to pick-up Sugar Smack ~ but I'll do it!
You just need to convince her to take the time off from work.
Cause it'll be about 1,000 from her front door to yours.
We'll giggle all the way there.

6. But not meant. See below. Hey, you might want to try this!
As long, of course, as you can find some other emulsifier than the egg.

7. Ah, Redstone, sir
I can and have. And, your recipe...c'est magnifique. I use Veganaise (animal product free mayo) to make mine. Pesto is a gift from the Gods.

Cheers, sir!

10. So what does Veganaise use to emulsify the oil? Seaweed?
Funny how some people read ingredient labels and get horrified when they see "carrageenan," not knowing that it's about as natural as you can get...right off the rocks on the shores of Ireland, and all that.

12. I don't freak when I see carrageenan. Seaweed rocks!
But that's an aside. Here, check the Vegenaise site out (I know, I spelled it differently by habit...sue me)

13. Think I'll try me some of that.
Not that I have any problem eating eggs (especially because we get them from our own chicken), but because it's important to try to help support companies like that.

As long as it tastes good. I'm a lifelong Hellman's fan, so it needs to be REAL good to get my repeat business.

15. Hey, any chickens cared to by Redstone
are probably pretty well off.

I agree in helping companies like this, but I also agree that there's no issue with me and folks that have their own well kept, well treated chickens that happen to also lay eggs.

Get the Grapeseed Vegenaise, with the purple label. It is the, um...I don't know, as I guess I'm getting old...bomb? The "shizzle?"

5. Just joking. Did you mean this?

That's for the sandwich. for the pesto mayo, there are two ways to go about it:

1) Make some pesto, or buy a jar of some that you know is made well. Mix 1/3 pesto to 2/3 GOOD mayonnaise, like Hellman's. Add a couple of chunks of garlic, chopped, or roasted if you like a milder flavor. Stick it all in a food processor and whirl until smooth (this works better than just stirring it together, though you can do that if pressed for time).

2) From scratch, though I can't give you exact amounts...you'd have to watch and write down how much: Pre-process some fresh basil to a smooth paste. Throw an egg yolk and a bunch of garlic into the food processor, with a touch of salt, a dab of white pepper, and a splash (or less) of vinegar. Crank up the processor, and start adding some damn good olive oil slowly, and I mean a drop at a time at first, then in a fine stream (be patient, now,) until it sets up nice and firm; you're looking for something about twice as thick as mayonnaise...figure about the consistency of good fresh sour cream. Put the basil paste in about 15 seconds before it's done.

Simple, yes? Heaven when spread on a sandwich with tomatoes walked in from the garden.

And don't forget the Rolling Rock.

Anything else you need, cuz, your wish is, as ever, my command.

11. Yum. Gonna save that recipe for late summer! Sounds great.!
Gods willing, there will be tomatoes and fresh basil in da momma's veggie patch. Can't promise to use home grown garlic. That is a bit iffy in my 'hood.

14. Garlic's good to have in the garden; it keeps bugs off the plants.
But if you can't grow it, no big deal. As long as the tomatoes are fresh, you're all set.

Glad you liked my recipes.
