Foreign volunteer work for medical residents? Help!
A family member, who is currently a medical resident, is looking to do some volunteer work outside of the U.S. for about a month or so. Her employer doesn't have any programs, so we have been trying to find out about other programs via google.

DUers are a voluteer oriented bunch, so I thought someone might have some leads here.

Any suggestions, links, etc would be much appreciated.

1. Medcins sans Frontieres?
Doctors without Borders.

I don't know how long their usual stint is.

2. Does she attend a church?
Many churches offer relief trips lasting two to four weeks in duration. My church has one coming up in March w/ a fellow church in Jamaica. They have also been talking about doing one in Zimbabwe.
That might be a way to go for her.

3. She doesn't go to church
but she is certainly open to working with people of any faith doing good work, if they want her help.

She is a resident at the University of Michigan, and they allow for her to do one month of work outside of the hospital. She obviously needs to get U of M's approval, and the organization needs to be one that is recruiting physicians, not just any kind of volunteer.

If you still think it is worth sending any info, let me know.

Thanks!

5. Check out UMC.org
United Methodist Church. They would probably take any kind of recruit w/ a medical background but would be especially pleased w/ a med residency. If they have anything I bet they'd be interested. And I would think that her school would accept them as legit.
