So is "brokeback" now a meme? |
|
Seems like it is. And speaking personally, I think that's cool.

1. If you've not yet seen the movie, I highly recommend it. The best I saw |
|
in 2005 without a doubt, and perhaps in years.

And sadly, I haven't seen it - it just arrived where I live, so I hope to be able to see it soon.

3. What do you mean? It's a film, a story. Please elaborate on how it would |

4. The word just seems to have taken on a life of its own |
|
I realized this seeing the thread about "Top Gun 2: Brokeback Squadron"

5. If you mean people using the word "brokeback" with gay jokes, |
|
yes that has become popular, mostly with those who have not seen the film, but I don't know that constitutes a "meme" as I understand the term. I don't like that term and really don't use it, BTW. :hi:

7. Did you happen to see this week's issue of Time magazine? |
|
There's an article discussing how "Brokeback" has now reached the point where everyone is talking about it, or at least aware of it. He says "America is now experiencing the Brokeback breakthrough." http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1151805,00.html

10. You bet it is. First new one in quite a while, actually. |
|
I can't even remember the last one.

11. This doesn't seem to have much meaning though, a lot of people attaching |
|
"tee hee" gay jokes to the word brokeback, the huge majority of which have not seen the movie or have any conception of what it's about, aside from there's gay dudes in it.
I don't see that as a particularly positive cultural event, unless it results in a lot more people watching this most excellent film.
I suspect most of those making the jokes are unlikely to do so.

12. Well, memes don't have to make sense or be relevant to the actual |
|
thing that spawned them. They're just there. Yes? That's part of what makes them so annoying.
