Does anyone know anything about the Chevy HHR?

I don't think I've ever seen one, but it seems to have the cargo space I need.

1. They're GM's "PT Cruiser"

They are somewhat retro-looking station wagons. Its body style is loosely based on the 1949 Chevy Suburban. Kinda neat. I saw a heavily-customised one recently on a Japanese design webpage, and it was awesome.

3. I checked out their website

I just wonder if they're a good car or not. I think they look pretty cool. I don't want a truck if I can avoid it. I need to haul fairly bulky equipment frequently and fewer and fewer wagons seem to be available.

10. Honda Element

HUGE cargo space, not too expensive (especially if you go with the 2WD version).

I LOVE mine!



Not only to all the seats fold down like that, but the rear seats can be folded flat up against the sidewall or removed completely.

You can fit A LOT in this thing.



It's also really easy to get stuff in and out because there's no "lip" anywhere other than the front seatwells, so the rear floor is flush with the door opening (which, on the rear doors, is a suicide door, so there's also no pillar to deal with between front and rear doors. All the floors are rubberized instead of carpet, so you can basically just mop the thing out so it's extremely easy to keep clean.

Then you start looking at how versatile it is and it clicks. . . . they WERE thinking, that's why they made it :P

There are quite a few DU'ers that have them, all that I've seen post love them as much as I love mine.

Ugly in a cute way, lots of room, good on gas, Toyota reliability. The Element has more space, but lower EPA numbers and higher price, so those may or may not be factors. Elements are good vehicles, though my wife can't stand the looks of 'em. It'd be a handy vehicle for our dog rescue activities, though...

Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe (Corolla-based wagons) are roomy and not cheap cheap but not exorbitant either...might be worth a look. They ride rather nicely...

4. I crawled around in the interior of one last year at the state fair

I liked that it had under-floor storage in the rear cargo area, that's a neat idea that I wish my wagon had. The back seat was fairly comfortable but seemed like it might be a bit confining for people larger than I (I'm all of 5'3" if I stand up really tall and fluff my hair a bit) so it's not the best car if you're going to have adult back seat passengers, but it seemed like it'd make a decent kid hauler or one would have a ton of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. I wasn't crazy about the interior trim, as is typical for GM vehicles (it's the one thing I really dislike about my Saturn) it seemed a bit cheap. They may have improved that for the new model year though, I was looking at an '05.

15. I saw my first one yesterday. Did a double take, circled back around

the parking lot to see what it was. Odd looking duck. Looks like a cross between a PT Cruiser and a small Durango. My wife described it as a hummer with the air let out.

It could grow on me. No idea about performance.
