1. Good morning Clint
:hi:

did you check out the song by Joan Baez I told you about?

Ya know what was funny yesterday? I wanted to get tickets for Carmina Burana by Carl Orff for Feb 18th, but the cheap tickets were sold already so I declined. Then I saw that Joan Baez is coming to Frankfurt March 24th. Isn't that crazy? We talk about her music and boom ... I see a poster that she is coming here. But the tickets are too expensive also (around $50 a piece). I talked to my mom if she wanted to go (before I found out about the price). She was interested but neither for the price. Oh well, too bad.

2. Morning, Miss Honey!
:hi::hug:
Yes, I sure did and it's a great song! Coincidences like that are always funny, I think. Talk about something, and then you see it later that day again. That happens to me all the time. $50 is too much for me too. Why do artists think they need to charge that much to see them in concert?

because there are enough people
willing to pay that price.

But I am sad that I missed the cheap tickets for Carmina Burana. My mom and her bf come to Frankfurt to my b-day. I wanted to go with them there.

11. It's ok
seen a life performance of Carmina Burana last year. Had a couple of times already the luck to see and hear it life. Two times actually with dance. Which is just wonderful.

And Joan Baez probably sings only new songs which aren't that interesting to me :)

I will go Feb, 9th to a modern opera with friends. "Elektra" by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Its going to be interesting.

42. Ironically the best thing is to pick a foreign language opera
Which is most of them. Most opera houses have sur-titles, so you can see the translated words.

I'm certainly hope to go to Le Nozze di Figaro at the Royal Opera once it starts at the end of the month.

it is the perfect combination of singing and music that makes the opera. You just read what it is about before-hand and then just listen. B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.

Carmen by Georges Bizet is my choice to get into it (it was the first opera I ever saw).

If you wanna get into it, pick an opera that is lively. Like Carmen or the operas by Gilbert and Sullivan. Or Mozart.

Carmina Burana is glorious (infact now I'll probably have to put it on after what's playing now).

Is Elektra the Richard Strauss? I know the von Hofmannsthal was his librettist. It's one of Strauss' most modernist works, later in life he retreated from that style.

105. Hello, MissHoneychurch--
:hi: I'm extremely late to the party today. Sorry. :evilfrown: It's good to see you and the naughty girls active today!

I was very lucky to see Joan Baez sing at the March on Washington last fall. She sang Where Have All the Flowers Gone, I Dreamed I saw Joe Hill Last Night, and There's a Hard Rain Gonna Fall. I couldn't believe I was standing there in the field singing with her and crying because my brother was going to Iraq. He is back in the states right now, thank God.

Also libraries and opera are two of my favorite things. My first job in high school was at the public library and I could really move some books.

I hope you will like Elektra. I got to see it a couple years ago. It was spellbinding as the woman in the title role was spectacular. She seemed quite mad and when she did her dance I was paralyzed. Of course, it wasn't what I would call tuneful. Gilbert & Sullivan supply plenty of that!

I hope you are having a good day!

29. Yes, I don't have to go in until 1 PM.
So it's not too bad. I'm looking forward to the weekend off this week...the first since before Thanksgiving! :woohoo:

32. That's very good news.
I would not be happy having shifting days off rather than a week-end.

Do you have any plans?

41. I doubt it.
He only will go see comedies. Everything else, in his book, is depressing. Since Brokeback is heartbreaking in the end, I don't think there's a chance in hells he'd go with me.

Just spending time together - even if you're not actually "doing" anything can be wonderful.

85. Bring my own.
I make a big pot of soup at the week-end, then have that with salad, bread and cheese, pate, cooked meat or something like that, and coffee and milk (separately) to drink.

It was jolly good too, now I'm ready to face the afternoon.

The only place round here to buy food is a mini-Tesco - which means sandwiches which taste of plastic and have vast quantities of hidden salt and sugar. :puke:

69. Good morning Clint!
I'm not so sure I like it that it's hump day. My project comes to fruition on Friday, so I suspect I'll be working late tonight, and Thursday for sure. But it's all for a good cause, so it's worth it. I'm full of energy this morning again, so that's going to help.
Heard you guys talking about the opera. Now don't forget abut Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin, although a lot of people don't consider it a real opera. The Mikado will be playing here soon. I want to go but none of my friends want to see it, so just may go by myself.

96. Ko-Ko's "little list"
Relating to his position as Lord High Executioner.

I'm working from memory here....so apologies for errors:

As someday it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list, I've got a little list,
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed, who never would be missed.
-----Forgotten the first couple of entries-----
All children who are up in dates and floor you with 'em flat,
All persons who on shaking hands, shake hands with you like
that,
And all third persons who on spoiling
tetes a tetes insist,
They'd none of them be missed, they'd none of them be missed.

You may put them on the list, you may put them on the list,
As they'd none of them be missed, they'd none of them be missed.

99. Oh ok
didn't catch you there ... sorry.

Favorite song in the opera: I am so proud (Trio)

I am so proud,
If I allowed
My family pride
To be my guide,
I'd volunteer
To quit this sphere
Instead of you
In a minute or two,
But family pride
Must be denied,
And set aside,
And mortified,
And mortified

...

83. Hi Clint!
I've been hiding from the world so I wouldn't be tempted to accidentally remove anyone's head from their shoulders while I was waiting for a building inspector to show up yesterday.

I got a rather upsetting phone call from the bank's attorney last week. It seems like no one found the 2 open building permits from 1980 that had never been finalized with a C of O. I didn't know how big a can of worms would be opened by his visit and the not-knowing was driving me nuts.

The wood stove is in and working perfectly ~ BTW I needed a permit to have that put in my home.
I also need permits for a few other jobs that were done and some that are still ongoing.
I need an electrician to inspect the work that's been done.
I'm going to have official types in my life for the next 60 days.

I have a small break before the next construction job begins because I haven't scheduled it yet.
I'm going to get out of the house as much as possible before I'm stuck waiting for appointments, materials and contractors (and more inspectors).

106. Hello, Clint--
Are you still around today? I am awfully late.

I hope you get to see Brokeback Mountain again. I will have to see it a second time to notice a lot of the things people are talking about. I was so caught up in the story and the visuals that I don't really remember the soundtrack. When I see it again, I will definitely be paying attention to the music. Have a great day today! I hope work goes well and quickly.
