James is home sick again...
:( He was out sick 4 days last week with a respiratory infection. He was on Zithromax and his breathing treatments. All night last night he was coughing this horrendous cough...:( He's got dark circles today. part of me hates keeping him home, the other part knows he's going to be worthless without any sleep. Agggggh. I hate this part of parenting. If you don't hear from me, the truancy officer came to take me away. :hi:

4. Thank you MissHoneychurch.
 I so want him to feel better, and I thought we were on the right track. And then I get paranoid, thinking it's something in the house. We do this every year. Sigh....

5. sounds a bit like hayfever
or something similar. If you go through this every year.

If you think it is something in the house you and your husband would have symptoms as well.

6. He was born three weeks premature (not very), but enough so that
his pediatrician says his lungs will tend to be sensitive to respiratory illnesses. He is allergic to seasonal mold and the crazy temp changes here haven't helped much. Thanks again MH!

7. Something's in the air
I've been wheezing and rattling lately, enough to make me not bother with my inhaler and break out my nebulizer instead. A friend of my son's also has asthma and has been having a rough time lately too.

four times and day with nothing doing yet. :( Feel better NGU!

11. Yikes!
Mine hasn't been that bad, but it was the first time in months that I had to do treatments...I just figured it was the weather here...80 one day, 40 the next...What month is this?

32. What about Singulair and/or Advair?
I take Singulair every night and go back on the Advair during my high allergy times or when I have an infection. I hardly use the Albuterol ever. I use Flonase every day as well and have been taking Allegra-D, too.

I find when my allergies are well under control, my asthma doesn't bother me so much. Taking all the meds sucks, but being able to breathe is quite nice.

It must break your heart to see him suffer, though.

Are you able to help him keep up with his studies? Most school districts won't hold it against him with documented doctor's notes.

Hope he feels better soon.

34. He was on Allegra but it messed with his personality. Same thing
with Clarinex. So now, we do Nasonex twice a day and Flovent twice a day...with breathing treatments when it gets really rough. I surely do hate listening to his cough. It's too big for his little bean pole body. Thanks proles. I really appreciate it.

14. He NEVER wants to go to school.
;) But, I just hate having him out for so long. But then the other side of me says, "What good is it if he's miserable and he's coughing and disrupting the class?" Plus, one lunch mom has just been a real b*tch about it. Telling him to cover his mouth. Basically standing behind him every day yelling this at him. Why do they hire people, or let people volunteer who so obviously hate children? :pals: Good to see you.

16. I don't know, L. It pisses me off, too.
This reminds me -- off-topic: in high school I had a friend who was on the banners (aka big flags) team. The Team Mom was Mrs. Tiff, known to all as Mama Tiff. Mama Tiff was also a campus volunteer -- she walked around at lunchtime, keeping the kids in line. (It was a lot easier in the late 70s and early 80s.)

Mama Tiff was short and round. And she had a very large bosom. And she wore T-Shirts that said "Mama Tiff" where there would be a pocket.

Between the tall, skinny type in which "Mama Tiff" was set, and those enormous mammaries, it was inevitable that I would read Mama Titt.

13. Just keep him home.
I wish wish wish I had the luxury of keeping my kid out even when she's not sick.

Poor guy sounds like he's been through the ringer with this stuff. He's not going to be good with no sleep, you're right.

The truancy officer can kiss our butts!

Why can't you keep your daughter out?

Every cough of his is making me cringe. :(

They are trying to "play hardball" in our district with absences and it's a huge joke.

19. It's cold and flu season. What does the school district expect?
How old is he? Can you get his assignments and teach him during the day so he stays current?

I know what you are going through. Last year my little boy missed a solid week with the flu. I was actually feeling guilty about keeping him home. Crazy.

time teaching him things at home anyway. :hi:

We shouldn't be made to feel guilty like this.

I hate those things. My little guy is 9 and would be your little guy's classmate.

My little guy isn't so "little".

That is unfair to your little guy. There is a HUGE world of difference between 7 and 9.

Hope he feels better soon. Poor little guy.

20. Hope he's doing better soon. It's a drag for everybody when your
kid is sick. But you gotta pay attention to the respiratory stuff. You're a good mom.

I had to keep my boy home from middle school for three days last week, with the flu. He had a fever that really hung on. He actually hates missing school, so he was happy to go back this week.

I'm sending you and yours all the best. BTW, my son's name is Jasper....another "J" name! ;) Cool.

 Hang in there, Mom. I'm sure you can pick up the school work he's missed out on from his teachers for him to do at home, if he's up to it. That's what I did last week.

I guess that means your son is still pretty young, eh? Under third grade? That's nice, in any case, that you don't have to worry about it. Less stress is a good thing. :)

Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 02:51 PM by tigereye
or day 5 of kid home after last week's family funeral (2 days) and this week's respiratory weirdness. I had to take kid in the bathroom and turn on a hot shower and give him hot sweet tea last 2 nights because he wouldn't stop coughing. The doc said it was croup and gave him Prednisone. I took him to school but we didn't even make it through the door after the coughing started again. It's gotten better each day. Now he's fine, but, when will it end? Or is it a school allergy? ;)
