Another reason I need a new job!! |
|
At the beginning of December I changed to a part-time schedule, which means I now pay $480 month for my family's health insurance. It took HR over 4 weeks to enter this deduction into the pay system, so i got 2 checks with no health deduction--I assumed that when they made the correction they would take out the deduction in installments. I guess this was a ridiculous assumption, but I've been in similar situations with other employers and they have always taken large deductions in installments.
Not these assholes. They took it one one chunk, so I have NO NET PAY for this pay period. I have to wait 2 more weeks before I get paid!
I have to pay a babysitter so I can even come in here! My husband's birthday is today, I'm behind in the rent, I have to feed my baby, I have to pay the power bill (which is late.)
I can't live like this.
I'm so fucking pissed!

2. I don't think they do...it's a blanket policy...I had no idea. |
|
Union dues are taken in installments because the union negotiated for that, but retro monies are taken in one chunk. My own depatrment's HR probably can't even do anything about it.
I'm so stressed out!

I feel bad for my Executive Director. She has no control over what I'm paid, how I'm paid. Today she wanted to talk to me about ways we could manipulate the system to get me a raise because she's afraid that eventually I will be recruited by someone who can offer me more money.
I told her we should talk about it when she gets back from vacation. She'll be leaving Friday and back on Thursday.
I hope by then I know what's going on with this new job. I'd hate to have her waste her efforts. As it is, she's going to probably cry when I give notice. This is a very small office and I am responsible for so much. It will be a very hard transition.
The sooner I can warn her, the better...but I really can't say anything until I know for sure if I'm leaving, can I?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

5. If you have a good relationship with your ED, |
|
you might say that due to circumstances you have to look elsewhere for higher pay. I'd bet she wouldn't be surprised. But maybe if you give her a heads up, she can start the process for planning a new hire. But, I usually play it safe, and don't mention anything until it's all complete.

...whether I know definitively about the new job or not.
I really don't want her to be screwed. But I have to take care of myself.

14. dont tell her unless you know for sure you got another job |
|
She will have NO CHOICE but to start looking to replace you. If you dont have a job for sure, DO NOT SAY YOU ARE LOOKING.

8. "changed to a part-time schedule" |
|
Before my mom retired, she worked for our wonderful government, the Navy more specifically and they always kept her "part-time" for over 15 years so they wouldn't have to pay her a GS? employee's pay grade or give her benefits. Part-time status was 29 hours a week but they always made her work longer and used those hours as so-called comp-time and she'd get it back as a paid day off.
