I truly despise people who have been educated beyond their intelligence.
Like the assistant principal at my daughter's school.

One of my best friends has a little one with Down Syndrome. Very high functioning. They are studying Mali and storytelling and this little one wanted to tell the class about her Down Syndrome and how mom and dad found out, etc.

No. Mom was told because of the word 'chromosome' which apparently is code for penis or vagina, or who knows what else this moran thinks.

So, big mouthed me gets involved because Mom is crying and I called the asshat and told him if he didn't allow it, I would raise holy fucking hell. I told him I would go to the papers and the tv news with this because it was discriminatory.

Some of you may remember, that this is the same guy I had to threaten with legal action last year. But, you may also remember that I won.

I won this battle, too. What an asshat.

Rant over.

That is bizarre. I'm glad you won that battle. What an idiot.

5. Exactly. I even have a bumper sticker that says
"My child has more chromosomes than your honor student", which does confuse people, because none of my have Down Syndrome.

This poor mom has been trying so hard to get this kid the modifications she needs to succeed in life and the school is kicking and screaming the whole way. Fuckers.

Unfortunately for them, I know the law regarding this stuff, and have been an advocate for many years, so they know they can't win these battles.

It enrages me. What about the people who are truly needing the school to help their child?

I think it's less about being educated, as being given credentials they don't deserve. Unbelievable. Sorry you have to keep fighting the same asshole.

as for the case you are describing, if the school in question is anything like Hickville High where I went, the education level of the (Assistant) Principal is probably a running joke as is :)

15. They are more interested in covering their asses
than actually helping the kids at the school with special needs.

This county is so screwed up. They have a Principal and AP at this school with NO training in special ed., whatsoever with three classes of special needs kids.

One other school has a Principal and AP who were special ed teachers prior to getting promoted and they have NO special needs kids.

Ridiculous.

16. WTF?
So let me get this straight:

The kid wants to talk about Down's Syndrome and, presumably, mention that because he/she has 3 Chomosome 21s that he/she has Down's?

Am I getting this right?

And the asshate AP thought it meant genitals? :wtf:

He is a moran. Apparently, they thought it would be too 'over the heads' of third graders, and that parents would complain.

23. No frigging kidding.
And my friend isn't the most organized person on the planet, but she is deeply committed to raising an independent child. I have been helping her as much as I can, but that only pisses them off more, because I know more about special needs education and laws pertaining to special needs than they do.

Why don't they just admit they are in over their heads rather than knee-jerk every frigging time?

24. That is so fucking bizarre! This guy is twisted!
I've known a lot of teachers and most would be happy to have a kid, a compatriot of the other kids, talk about this.
There is a wealth of knowledge there, endless starting points for discussions, and a wonderful chance to teach the little savages about empathy.

Asshat is a much too polite a way to refer to him. I can think of some better words.

(Yeah OK this pisses me off. I've had friends with Down's Syndrome. My parents tried to adopt a girl with Down's Syndrome. When I was a kid, my best friend's older sister had Down's Syndrome. And if you listen, you can learn something. Yes, they are handicapped - but by no means stupid. They often have stories of great bravery and triumph - something every kid should hear, and more than a few adults too.)

Khash.
