6. Brazil Classics, Vol. 4: The Best of Tom Ze
"Solidão"

Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
O telefo...
Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
E no meu descompassa o riso dela

Na vida, quem perde o telhado
Em troca recebe as estrelas
Pra rimar até se afogar
E de soluço em soluço esperar
A vida que sobe na cama
E acende o lençol
Sol lhe chamando
Sol-licitando

Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
O telefo...
Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
E no meu descompassa o riso dela

Se ela nascesse rainha
Se o mundo pudesse agüentar
Os pobres ela pisaria
E os ricos queria humilhar
Milhares de guerras faria
Pra se deleitar
Por isso eu prefiro cantar sozinho

Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
O telefone chamou, foi engano
Solidão, que poeira leve
Solidão, olha a casa é sua
E no meu descompasso passa o riso dela

I've run in to a few of them, after I expressed how much I liked his music.

As Cousin Bruce Morrow was wont to say, "That's why we NUM-ber the Top 20 each week ! Get it?"

65. Beatnik Beatch. Bat out of Hell. The Joshua Tree.
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 11:21 AM by IanDB1
On edit: Also add "Keep Your Hands off my Power Supply" by Slade to the list.

I know, none of you have ever heard of Beatnik Beatch.

When I was in college, I contacted one of the band members to ask him about making a film adaptation of their song "Lonesome Town." He was surprised anyone had ever heard of him. I was just surprised his phone number was listed.

Beatnik Beatch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Beatnik Beatch were a short-lived band and predecessor of the legendary Jellyfish. They consisted of Chris Witt Kettner (bass, vocals), Andy Sturmer (drums, vocals) and George Cole (Guitar). They also featured Se Padilla on keyboards, later replaced by Roger Joseph Manning, Jr.

In 1986 they released At The Zula Pool, under the San Francisco-based indie label Industrial Records. It was re-released with 5 tracks removed and 4 tracks added after the band was signed by Atlantic Records in 1988. It was some time at this point Roger Manning joined the band. By the end of 1989, Beatnik Beatch had disbanded and Sturmer and Manning went on to form the nucleus of Jellyfish.

BEATNIK BEATCH:
AT THE ZULA POOL

In 1986, Beatnik Beatch released the album "At The Zula Pool" (on the spine it reads "At Zula Pool") on Industrial Records, despite the lack of Ministry samples. Industrial was the name of their management company (where I'd occasionally call for tour info and whatnot), so it's likely they just created a "label" to release this album. I'm not sure how many of these were produced or exactly why (there is no SKU on the album). I'm guessing they were sold at shows and to friends. 6 of the 10 songs were included on the album released on Atlantic Records in 1988 (strangely enough it's the first 6 on the album). They seem to be the actual recordings from this album. The only difference I heard (without listening too close, mind you) was that the order of the verses on "Beatnik Beatch" are switched.

The album cover looks like something you'd get free with a subscription to Seventen magazine cerca 1987 as far as colors go. The front cover has turquoise and yellow grainy shapes with a cool old pic of a girl in a bikini. The band's name is large in the middle of the album with the title very, very small right above it. I'll try to get a scan of it sometime soon. The record is on blue vinyl.

Charlotte, ex-Jellyfish Army queen says:

Speaking of the blue vinyl BB records....this should give you an indication of just what we think of it. Roger gave all the leftover lps (back in 1989 maybe?) to our friend Greg (the one across the hall whose computer I use), who took a blowtorch to them all & made candy dishes for everyone that Christmas. We took ours & are currently using it as a lampshade on our Dino (from the flintstones) home-made thrift store lamp. Yes, you may print that.

69. A South Park Christmas
Merry Fucking Christmas - South Park
I heard there is no Christmas,
In the silly Middle East..
No trees, no snow, no Santa Claus,
They have different religious beliefs...
They believe in Muhammad,
And not in our holiday...
And so every December,
I go to the Middle East and say...

Hey there Mr Muslim, Merry Fucking Christmas
Put down that book, The Koran
And hear some holiday wishes
Incase you haven't noticed,
It's Jesus's Birthday
So get off your heathen Muslim ass
And fucking celebrate.

There is no holiday season in India,
I've heard..
They don't hang up their stockings,
And that is just absurd..
They've never read a Christmas story,
They don't know what Rudolph is about...
And that's why in December,
I'll go to India and shout...

Hey there Mr Hinduist, Merry Fucking Christmas
Drink eggnog, and eat some beef
and pass it to the missus
Incase you haven't noticed,
It's Jesus's birthday
So get off your heathen Hindu ass,
And fucking celebrate.

Now I heard that in Japan,
Everyone just lives in sin...
They pray to several gods,
And put needles in their skin...
On December twenty-fifth,
all they do is eat a cake...
and that is why I'll go to Japan,
and walk around and say...

Hey there Mr Shintoist, Merry Fucking Christmas
God is gonna kick your ass You infidelic pagan scum.
Incase you haven't noticed,
There's festive things to do
So lets all rejoice for Jesus
and Merry Fucking Christmas to you.

On Christmas Day, I travel round the world and say..
Taoists, Korishnas, Buddists
and all you atheists too..
Merry Fucking Christmas to you.
Thank you, Mr Hat..

98. KaTe Bush - The Dreaming
Best ever - Suspended in Gaffa

Out in the garden, there's half of a heaven
And we're only bluffing
We're not ones for busting through walls
But they've told us unless we can prove
That we're doing it
We can't have it all.
He's gonna wangle a way to get out of it
She's an excuse
and a witness who'll talk when he's called
But they've told us
Unless we can prove that we're doing it
We can't have it all
We can't have it all

Suddenly my feet are feet of mud
It all goes slow-mo
I don't know why I'm crying
Am I suspended in Gaffa?
Not until I'm ready for you
Not until I'm ready for you
Can I have it all?
I try to get nearer
But as it gets clearer
There's something appears in the way
It's a plank in me eye
With a camel who's trying to get through it
Am I doing it?
Can I have it all now?
I pull out the plank
and say thank you for yanking me back
To the fact
That there's always something to distract
But sometimes it's hard
To know if I'm doing it right
Can I have it all?
Can I have it all now?
We can't have it all

I won't open boxes that I am told not to
I'm not a Pandora
I'm much more like
That girl in the mirror
Between you and me
She don't stand a chance of
Getting anywhere at all
Not anywhere at all
No, not a thing
She can't have it all.

Tori Amos - Boys for Pele That was the one I was playing when my lover asked "What the fuck is her problem?" My answer: "If you don't know... you'll never understand."
