20 cops, 2 girls, and my dinner
Last night I’m standing outside my apartment waiting for my dinner delivery when this wild scene happens....

A police van, a police car, and an unmarked car come speeding onto my little street (one of the only cul-de-sacs in Manhattan). The police car drove into the Amsterdam Housing Project, and a police officer walked out of the van. At first, I didn't realize the unmarked car was with the police...nor did I realize it was an unmarked car. The police man walked over the unmarked car and received something from the driver. Then 5 guys with hoodies on, covering their head, walk over to the unmarked car, 3 get in, and the car speeds away with no lights on.

Uh-oh, I think to myself, this is kinda weird...

Right after, two girls (looking about 15 years old) come strolling through my building, from the courtyard to the front door. The cop (who got something from the unmarked car) suddenly bolts toward me and goes after the two young girls. He yells to them "up against the wall!" I’m right next to them, and try to slink away, going inside the front door of my building.

Within 2 minutes of the first cop finding these two girls, there are suddenly 20 cops swarming all over my front door, surrounding the girls. Another 3 or 4 police cars pull onto the street and are shining these super bright spotlights on the two girls.

Of course, right at this moment, my dinner is delivered.

So I walk out of my building right into the middle of all these cops and these two girls and announce "sorry, my dinners here." All the cops turn at look at me like I’m from Mars, and then proceed to arrest the two girls. Right when the handcuffs go on, all these plainclothes officers come running through my building, and out from different hiding areas, probably another seven or ten of them. The cops are all congratulating each other.

And I’m shaking so badly, I can barley get the money out of my wallet to pay for my dinner. :scared:

What did these two girls do to require all these cops?

5. It depends on what the charges were
There are some violent females around.

IF it was something like shoplifting, then I agree. If it was something worse, then I'll reserve judgment.

24. I was a innocent victim of over the top cops once when I was walking
my dogs. The cops were looking for a male with a shotgun, I am not male and I didn't have a shotgun. These cops about 10 to 12 of them went all crazy, surrounded me with their cars and pointed their guns at me and threated to shoot my dogs if they didn't stop barking, the dogs were just protecting me. After about 3 long minutes of this a call came over the cop radio that the male with the shotgun was found, all the cops jumped back in their cars and drove off.

I didn't get one I am sorry from the cops, but I got the badge number from the cop in charge, she was sorry later.

No I am not a big fan of cops, nor to I trust them.

33. I was sure they were going to think I was with them
cause when they first told them up against the wall, i was standing right next to them.

Thats an awful story. cops are wild, and I stronly dislike them and dont trust them at all.

34. That doesn't mean they shouldn't go out in force when warranted
Your situation was dead wrong and you did indeed deserve an apology, but there are times when this may be needed. Until we know what the charge is - we can't really say.

4. You went out in the middle of that?
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 01:52 PM by nini
No WAY here. I've been around action like that before and just stayed put until it was over... I was sitting in a car that was right by a car the cops had pulled over. The guy got out of the car followed by the cops who drew their guns and aimed them at him. I was in the line of fire as the guy was between us. I looked at one of the officers with a 'do I sit still or move' look. He motioned to sit still and I did. If I had got in the middle of it, it could have caused more confusion that would have added to the instability of the situation.

Anyway, there were that many cops there to cover all possible exits.

I guess you'll have to find out what the crime was before we can comment on if it was really necessary.

14. I have no idea the charges or the necessity of all the cops
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 01:57 PM by MadAsHellNewYorker
I was just amazed at how it went down and the huge police presence. There were no weapons out and the girls weren't fighting back, so I didn't see why I couldn't live my life like a normal person! lol.

your situation sounds quite scary too:scared:

11. I was walking home one night, and at the corner of 139 and Broadway
getting ready to turn the corner onto 139, and a bunch of cop cars turn off Broadway up 139, going the wrong direction, and a bunch of cars are coming down 139, trapping a car, and in the space of about 5 seconds I went from a quiet walk home to being surrounded by a good twenty cops, all with their guns drawn and pointed at the trapped car, and much yelling.

I turned around, and went back to Broadway, and went around the block the other way...

that shit pisses me off more then anything else :grr: why is wanting to make sure animals don't have to suffer or protecting the environment considered extremism? :nuke:

Although, that would explain the excessive amount of police
