Simpsons Fans--How and when did Dr. Marvin Monroe die?
I swear I never saw that episode, or any reference to it. But in tonight's episode when Maude died, they showed his tombstone. They've also referenced in other episodes the fact that he died, but never any details!

1. Don't know
The only thing I can remember is the Monroe hospital in a later season. (IIRC "Who shot Burns")

2. The fact started popping up with with no specifics...
Hints like the Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital, and his tombstone appears, with carved psychiatrists' couch in one episode.

As far as I know, it didn't happen in any episode.

The first time I was aware of it was when Troy McClure was "hosting" a 100th episode Simpsons special and right before one of the breaks they asked, "What two popular Simpsons characters have died recently?"

Well the answer later was "If you said Bleeding Gums Murphy and Doctor Marvin Monroe, you are wrong. They were never popular."

5. I am not sure how and when, but I do know why
If you listen to the DVD commentaries in the first two seasons, it's mentioned quite a few times that the voice actor who played Dr Monroe absolutely destroyed his throat every time he played the part. As a result, Marvin Monroe was written out of the scripts.

7. Interesting--also, the woman who did Lunch Lady Doris--Doris Grau, died,
but the character still shows up from time to time.
