Catholic School's Mistake Has Callers Reaching "Hot, Horny Girls"

Foreign students looking for help applying to Seton Hall University instead got an offer to talk to "hot, horny girls" thanks to a misprinted phone number in the Catholic university's admissions application.

Tens of thousands of undergraduate applications for the South Orange university list an 800 number for overseas students to call to get their high school transcripts approved. But the number is a recorded advertisement for a phone-sex line.

"Spark up your days and nights with stimulating talk," the recording says. It then refers callers to a second 800 number.

That number is a phone-sex line that offers callers a chance to speak to "students, housewives and working girls" for 99 cents to $2.99 a minute.

"Hey there, sexy guy. Welcome to an exciting new way to go live one-on-one with hot, horny girls waiting right now to talk to you," the recording tells callers to the second number before prompting them to enter their credit card numbers.

Embarrassed Seton Hall officials said it appears two digits in the phone number were swapped on the undergraduate application.

"We did 973 instead of 937. As you can see, it's an easy mistake," said Thomas White, a Seton Hall spokesman.

The error was in both the online and print applications sent to freshmen and transfer students. The typo may go back several years, White said.

"I'm surprised that we didn't catch it before now," he said. "This was a very unfortunate typo, and we apologize to any of our international applicants who were affected by this."

Seton Hall officials removed the incorrect number from the online application yesterday afternoon. There is no way to correct the thousands of print admissions materials already distributed, though the school was already in the process of phasing out the application.

The number was printed on the application's instruction page in a section that outlines how students can submit their high school transcripts.

The application instructs foreign students to contact World Education Services, an academic credential evaluation firm, to have their high school transcripts screened before they apply to Seton Hall. The sex line is listed as the contact number for the New York-based company.
