Does anyone know anything about filtering software for the web? |
|
The kind that keeps you from viewing "unauthorized" web sites at work, the kind that protect little kids from porn, etc.
Yesterday I pulled up a “craigslist” “best of” page and was very surprised to find sexually explicit text. I guess most of the “best of” page is composed of “missed connection” and “rant/rave” posts.
Well, I gave it a cursory glance and moved on. Today I went to have another look (there was a lot more there than sex stuff, so no jokes ;)), and my company’s filtering software stopped it.
Here’s my question: did that software run some process over night to read every page accessed by our servers and pick that one out to block it?
How does this filtering software work?
Signed,
Scared :scared: - what else are they looking at?

3. They use something called "Websense" where I work |
|
I think it's installed on the network, and filters out sites based upon keywords but it can also be set up to manually block sites, too. For example, hotmail.com has been blocked out by our administrator.
