Any insurance professionals out there? |
|
OK, here's the situation. For me to get hired as an independent contractor for a local courier service, my car insurance needs to be $100K/$300K with $25K in property damage. I just called my carrier, Geico, and was told that they couldn't raise my limits that high because I had only been with them for a year. That was the only reason, too.
So if you happen to work in the insurance industry, might you be able to assist me in this regard? I'd appreciate it very, very much!

100/300 is the most common type of liability protection and the one usually sold. Unless you have some incidents in recent history that has caused you to go into a higher risk category. It is possible too that you have a high risk profile: a single male under 25 or esp. under 21 is the most expensive and most difficult category to insure. Any of this fit? (I know quite a bit--used to be an Auto and Home agent for Prudential 10 yrs. ago)PS What state are you in?

As for my driving history, I do have one violation from May 2001, when I didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign and a cop saw me. But that was two-and-a-half years ago and I've had nothing since.
Would Geico be that anal retentive?

My only other thought on the insurance co. defense would be if they thought you were trying to obtain a commercial type of insurance. Is that the case? Or are you supposed to just obtain personal insurance? If it is just personal insurance you are supposed to have, it sounds like you have carried insurance for sometime. If your insurance time frame has not been interupted, if you have had continuous insurance, I would shop around and transfer your existing coverage to another company for personal insurance and apply as an individual personal auto coverage with the limits that you need and not volunteer any further information. That is what I would do, just call around shopping for rates and inquire on the new limits you want., then transfer. You might even call Geico back and talk to another service rep. I would actually try that first if that is where you have your policy. I myself have Geico. I have found that many times you get different versions from different agents depending on the experience level of the rep/underwriter. And Geico is in a big hiring phase now, trying to save everyone alot of money on their insurance! (TV add)
