2. Why am I not surprised

That it was the English springer who was leading the puppy escape over the wall? Or who decided to poop in the middle of Puppy Stadium?

Meet Miss Molly, who would have been an excellent player, in one of her quiet, ain't misbehaving moments:

6. Two Springers? JOY!!
Dammit! Their tails are docked! I HATE that! Springers have beautiful tails, with long silky hair. They hold it high like a flag. In the US, they are deprived of their tales by fucking humans. I hate humans. Except for you guys.

9. Same here
We adopted a springer last spring, and we hated the idea of a docked dog and of docking in general. The excuse we were given was that breeders have to do it within a couple days of birth or else the vascular system is too developed, and at that stage they don't know which pups they'll be keeping for show work and which they'll be releasing. Hence, they have to dock everyone.

Our Molly, the One Springer of the Apocalypse, has such a happy little stub that we can't help wonder how glorious it would have been if she had the whole tail.

11. Here is an example...

My springer was closer to breed standard except large at 75 pounds no fat. His tail was beautiful.

The AKC demands that the tails be docked, those bastards, and people just do it automatically. It's pointless, and it removes a beautiful feature specifically bred into the dog for a purpose.

My springer would swim for hours, how about the "One Springer of the Apocalypse"?

13. Impressive
What a gorgeous tail! I hate that AKC requires it for confirmation work.

Molly has only been swimming once, because the pond in the park near our house was fairly dry last summer. But apparently she had a grand time. Her big brother, a golden retriever, waded into the pond slowly and just walked around in the water. Molly, on the other hand, gave the water a sniff, backed up a few steps, and then took a running leap, splashing everywhere. She was only about 5 months old. She is a fierce girl, not afraid of anything.

When at a pool, ours would jump in, swim out, run around and jump in over and over. They are a water dog and they know it.

We had the usual problems, and you should be aware of them. Springers have long ear canals, and can suffer from frequent ear infections. It's a good idea to clean their ear canals on a regular basis. We used hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls. Might want to seek out advice from a vet or Springer specialist for the best method these days. Regular maintenance will prevent infection. Also, the breed is prone to allergies that will cause hot spots and rashes on the tummy and inner thighs and biting of the rump. Only treatment for those was prednisone.

I'm looking forward to this Puppy Bowl and those Springers. Pet yours for me, please! :hi:

15. Thanks for that info
Miss Molly does tend to like to lick her vulva. We had thought she was doing it just because she could.

She'll be one year next month and is probably due for a checkup. I'll be sure to speak with her vet about it.

16. Do ask about how to care for their ears.
These problems show up after the first year or two. Frequent head shaking is a sign of ear discomfort.

As for the skin, it's a problem when you see red patches on the inner thighs. It's a problem known among Springer owners, so you may want to search for web pages for Springers. It's been over 10 years since our Springer succumed to old age, so please excuse my lack of details. Also, not all Springers have skin problems, and simnce Molly strikes me as a perfect name for a female Springer maybe you will be spared. :-)

Post a picture sometime!
