One juror I spoke with a long time ago told me that he'd worn a shirt that said: "Hang 'em all....Let God sort them out."
I couldn't do that! But it's funny anyhow......

|
but it was expected to go for a week and a half, and I had surgery scheduled, so the judge let me out of that one. The next one I was picked for was delayed so I didn't serve on that jury.

In SF, they have a very high-tech waiting area, I brought my laptop last time, played about for 2 hours and was dismissed.
Serving would be interesting, my mom has sat on about 20 juries, she just finished up as a grand juror for 2 years, her "jury promotion" as we call it.

I don't think our old criminal court building is very high-tech these days.....
I just take a good book, and read, or spend time people-watching....
I've always wanted to be on a grand jury. Maybe one day.....

I'm not going to drive! I will use the light rail system to get there...
It takes awhile, but I just walk off, and the courthouse is about 2 blocks away......
No parking hassles! But then, there's no car to leave things in.....
Oh well...it was a good idea anyhow!

I'd have the power....if they'd let me onto a criminal case! I have always been thrown off of EVERY single one I got onto.....ALL OF THEM!
I've only served on two civil cases....and one of those was a hung jury.
NO, not because of me!
Still, I go and I try to serve honestly......we'll see!
I appreciate your comments a lot...esp. because of your expertise, my dear!

14. I wouldn't mind doing my civic duty, but I can't. |
|
1) If I'm not working, I don't make any money. The six bucks a day that they pay you for being on a jury isn't going to go far to pay a $2K/month mortgage and $1700/month health insurance.
2) I can't sit still for more than ten minutes. If I sat in a jury-type chair for eight hours, someone whould have to (literally) carry me out of the courtroom.

That sculpture is outside the Planetarium on the campus of the University of Arizona.
The meteor is welded to the curving steel.
Because the meteor is mostly iron, it's a good connection.

Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 01:07 AM by Opposite Reaction
Last time I was notified, the form gave specific instructions and a phone number to call. You call in the evening, I think it was 5pm, and enter a code. You will then be instructed to show up the next day, or you will be instructed not to come in but call the following evening. Lasts five days. Last time, I was not called in. This is in Santa Clarita. It's nice, because you can plan your next day in advance and inform the boss if you won't be at work. Fortunately, the company I work for looks at jury duty as necessary, even if it is an inconvenience (like sick days or vacations).
Well, good luck. I hope you find an interesting (but not protracted!) case! :hi:
Edit: Spelling, I'm series!

Uh, I mean, congratulations...
I was summoned a few months ago to the downtown Los Angeles courthouse and ended up waiting six days before being dismissed.
The judge was a complete moron and the case involved two rich jerks suing each other, and the justice system assumed a poor sucker like myself would give a damn.
I considered the whole thing a waste of time, but on the upside, I spoke with many cool people, including a couple of ladies who were very easy on the eyes. ;)

Except I might not have to show up at all.......
Los Angeles county has a system where you call each day to see if they need you.....
And if they don't.......after a week, you're done........
My husband recently did this, and the second or third day, they told him they didn't need him anymore...
So he never had to show up at all.....
I do hope to serve on a trial....they are fascinating!
