Oops! I just got a lecture from a cop! |
|
So Ok , my mom and I go out to dinner. Then we can't find her purse. So we assume it was lost/stolen at the restaraunt. No one's acussing anyone of anything.
So the manager calls the cops. Later a waitress calls the cops. Then I call the cops and say that this is a problem - after an hour no cops have showed up, I have thirty people who would just like to go home.
The lady tells me to get their names and phone numbers and tell them to go home. I do. She also tells me to go home. Call back. As soon as you get home call back.
So we get home, find the purse, and I call the cops and say "drop it". "It was an honest but stupid mistake".
Then a deputy shows up and accuses me of wasting his time. So I'm standing on the front porch and this guy is reading me the riot act. And I'm saying "Sir, I know it was a waste of your time - that's why I called. When we realizied it was a mistake, not a crime, I called to make sure you didn't waste your time."
Well, fuck me with a chainsaw!
So who's the idiot? Me? Him?
Khash.

This is not a general condemnation of cops or anything. I just think the guy was taking things a little too far. You weren't the only one who called the cops, and you did the right thing in calling them right away when you found the purse.

3. Cops are underpaid and overworked, in general |
|
I try to cut them a bit of slack. There could have been something more important he could have been working on.
He doesn't need to be a complete jerk about it, but he's not doing anything wrong by informing you that you should be fairly confident that a crime has been committed before you involve the police.

6. You were civil with the officer. |
|
That he was rude says a lot more about him than it says about you. Let it go, and have a
