How the defense department defines homosexual conduct:
Maj. Todd Vician, a Defense Department spokesman in Washington, said the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy states that "homosexual orientation alone is not a bar to service, but homosexual conduct is incompatible with military service."

"We define homosexual conduct as homosexual acts or verbal or nonverbal communication that a member is homosexual," Vician said.

2. If mere perception of "verbal or non-verbal communication"
is the rule, anyone can be ridden out on a rail from the military. It steams the hell out of me.

4. It's all about perception.
If they perceive that you're gay, you're out. And they can withhold the benefits that you've _earned_, too.

5. Uh, yeah
I can see it now.

"Sgt. Smith was Dishonorably Discharged as he was caught looking at a fellow soldier in a homosexual manner." :wtf:

This stuff is getting totally FUBAR.

6. EXACTLY.
But ya know what, I see the same mindset every week on DU. "I get a bad vibe from my neighbor," or "So and so makes me very uncomfortable. Should I call the cops????????" :eyes: When do we, as individuals, start taking responsibility for our own prejudices and "uncomfortable feelings"? :grr:

7. I don't know if we ever will
We aren't being encouraged to. I drive to and from work every day on the highway and pass multiple flashing signs that say, "Terror Tips? Call 1-800-XXX-TIPS". These do nothing but help foster suspicion and paranoia. Next thing you know we're turning each other into the Thought Police over nothing.
