What music should I put on my workout CD?
Looking for selections with a good, fast beat and lyrics that are not depressing.

Currently trying to put together a collection of newer music but later I want other collections like the 80's, Motown, etc.

No country or techno please!

Thanks.

3. If you want Motown and '80s...
Try:

Ain't Too Proud to Beg

Heard It Through the Grapevine

Dancing in the Street

Nowhere to Run

Back in My Arms Again

Cool-down: When a Man Loves a Woman

1980s:

Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel)

Higher Love (Steve Winwood)

New Sensation (INXS)

Need You Tonight (INXS)

Actually, you might want to get The Big Chill soundtrack or some compilations of Motown, plus '80s compilations.

5. ANYthing afro-cuban. Putuyama Record label does some great
compilations. It's all really upbeat, energizing stuff, with great drumming and percussion. I listen to that type of music EVERY time I workout!! I can't understand what the hell they're saying, but it doesn't matter at all because the music, itself, is so compelling!

That'll get you going. A little dated, but quite fun.

8. "Money for Nothing", "Junebug", "Cosmic Thing", et al...
Anything with an uplift beat.

Lots of early 80s fit the bill here. Some of which being coyly political too. :)

13. my favorite work out music...
Garbage. especially songs from 2.0
AC/DC. Their earlier stuff is better for working out.

14. Too bad you don't like techno
"Chase" by Giorgio Moroder is perhaps one of the best workout songs I've ever heard. It just creates a vivid mind picture of Billy Hayes running through the streets of Istanbul at night, pursued by Turkish cops. Not to mention, it did win the 1978 Academy Award for best motion picture score.

15. I'm pretty sure you can't exercise without techno...
But I recommend Dream theater. "Stream of Consciousness" seems like a good place to start. Also Rush. "YYZ", perhaps?
