I just got "Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms" - W-O-friggin'-W! :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Digitally restored music never sounded so good.

I'd vote for all the B-52s albums...

1. I'm with you on Dire and the B's.
I would have to add about all Iron Maiden for a guilty pleasure. I really love the wider format. You can pick out stuff that was almost background noise, just seperates everthing so well.

2. None
Most recordings are originally in stereo, sometimes even mono. A re-release in surround sound is just marketing.
A re-recording in surround might be worthwhile for a few bands, but I don't see myself investing money into new playback equipment and surround speakers. Especially not for a copy protected proprietary format, which I can't even use on my PC.

3. Odd. I'm playing it on a Linux computer right now...
 :D

Still, I know that is to come at some point.

It is marketing... but I never bought any Dire Straits albums before... and I'd re-do my collection except I don't have a decent sound cleaning program. (Adobe has one, but I'm not shelling $300 for it... cheaper just to buy the re-release becausde the knoweldge I'd gain couldn't be used elsewhere...)

4. DVD-Audio maybe, certainly not SACD
SACDs have a normal CD layer, which does play on computers. The "good" track is hidden away and can't be read with normal drives. At least IIRC.

5. Aha... thanks for the edification.
Definitely useful for those who have the newer hardware, but many would not care... or notice.
