Is Everyone Saying "I Feel"?
I'm curious. At my college here in Ohio, and when I visited a college in New York, I noticed a lot of people saying "I feel" in every sentence, usually substituting it for "I think."

For example:

"I feel like tacos are better than burgers."

"I feel that Al Gore is smarter than Ted Kennedy."

"On tomorrow's exam, there will be math problems, right?"
"I feel that."

"I feel like this red sweater goes better with the blue shirt."

You get the point. Anyone else notice this propensity? I feel like it emerged from "Laguna Beach" or something. :-)

1. Random
Also, have you noticed everyone saying "random"? I really want to email Malcolm Gladwell, author of "Tipping Point" to see if language is affected by the tipping point phenomenon.

2. It didn't emerge from Laguna Beach...
it's been going on for a long time. My high school adviser (a tough English teacher) absolutely hated it, going so far as to scold people for saying "I feel" when they should have been saying "I think". I've been out of high school nearly 22 years.

4. In Writing
In writing, I know it's been around for a long time, as far back for me as 6th grade (10 years ago). But it seems to me like it is just now exploded into our everyday speech.

5. It's been in every day speech a long time.
I've always found it annoying.
