Is there a good electronic room deoderizer/air purifier?
I swear, this place is better than Consumers Report.

OK, I don't want this room (and part of the rest of the house) to smell like the bottom of an ashtray anymore.
And, NO, I'm NOT quitting and I DID NOT ask for advice on that, thank you very much.
You can start your own anti-smoking thread elsewhere, and you will be dealt with severely if you bring it up here.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
;-)

I'm looking at a couple of gadgets in the Heartland America catalogue.
They're basically electronic air "purifiers" that ionize and filter.
Do you use one that really works, or is it just marketing BS?
Thank you.

2. I've got a Hunter QuietFlo w/hepa filter.
Seems to work fine for me. However, it's time to get a new filter and a new one costs as much as the whole purifier. When it came time to replace the filter in the machine I had before this, the store where I bought it didn't carry it any more. I thought there was a flap about the Sharper Image "ionizer" a while back but don't rememember the details.

Good luck!

3. I swear by AirSource.
It's an ionizer-style filter, and is the best I've tried - and I've tried them all. Hepa filters don't even come close; the Sharper Image version is good too, but not this good. This one keeps my allergies under control in a house full of dogs. I'll warn you that it's kinda pricy, and needs a replacement filter every year or so, but well worth it IMO.

5. speaking of Consumer Reports...
they HATE the Sharper Image one. Said it didn't work and released dangerous quantities of ozone into the air. Sharper Image sued CR and lost. Now, Sharper Image has a new "ozone guard" filter. I don't think CR has rated it.

CR recommends two -- says they actually work and don't produce unacceptable levels of ozone
