1. Get used to opera w/ vocals
and it will open up a vast world of truly wonderful, lovely, beautiful entertainment for you that goes well beyond simply hearing melodies from operas. I love Musetta's Waltz from Puccini's La Boheme ("hardcore" sung and staged) as well. And you can get biting satire and politics as well from some operas!

4. Hi, Mike, Welcome to DU
I absolutely love opera! I was lucky enough to subscribe to the Washington Opera Company for several seasons (until the tickets got so expensive I couldn't afford them). There is nothing in this world like opera!

3. Yes, that's very popular.
It shows up in films (for example, Life Is Beautiful) and in compilation discs.

The world needs more OPERA! :bounce:

5. Opera is a good thing
The vocals take on a music of their own, so the words don't matter if you can't understand the language.

6. Another beautiful duet... "Sull'Aria" was in the Shawshank Redemption.
Wonderful use of it. (From Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro)
