So the good news is I finally bought a new desktop...
the bad news is I still don't have my DSL installed on it because it was the DSL crashing my other two new computers that I bought and returned. Seems the version of Verizon DSL I have on CD isn't very compatible with Window's XP.

So you'd think that Verizon would have the most current version of their software available for download off their website.

Guess what - THEY DON't!!

So now I'm without an internet provider on my new computer (I'm connected on my old one right now) and I can't cancel because I took the one-year agreement so I could save like $7.95/month.

So now I paid good money for this computer that basically is only good for playing solitare on it because I can't get it online.

But this computer I'm keeping - it's a Sony RB that I got a killer price on it because it was an Open Box buy from Best Buy (Originally it was $899 but I got it for $575).

So answer me this - why wouldn't verizon allow you to download their most recent DSL software from their website? I mean, the technology is there that allows you to *gasp* download stuff from the internets. And wouldn't that be a better way to sell their DSL software by allowing folks to sign-up and download right there on the spot.

I just don't get it!

1. Have you tried just connecting the phone line to your box?
And if it doesn't autoconnect (open your browser and see if it loads), open 'Network Connections' in the control panel, and follow the wizard to create a new connection.

Many times you don't need to install software proprietary to the provider. SBC/Yahoo, for example, sent out misleading notices to their customers when they joined up. They made it sound as if you had to install their garbage and use the Yahoo portal, when in reality it was all marketing fakery.
