Cruise, Holmes, Simpson and Hilton all up for Razzies!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4661810.stm

Sequels and remakes have come in for derision in the Razzie Award nominations, with Son of the Mask and the Dukes of Hazzard leading the field. Son of the Mask, the sequel to The Mask, but minus its star Jim Carrey, earned eight nominations including worst film and actor for Jamie Kennedy.

Tom Cruise is nominated for worst actor for War of the Worlds, alongside Will Ferrell for Bewitched.

The "winners" will be announced on 4 March, 24 hours before the Oscars.

The Razzies annually recognise the "worst" films and actors, revelling in how bad movies can be.

The awards organisers have dubbed 2005 "a very bad year for movies", making it a good year for the Razzies.

Paris Hilton was nominated for horror remake House of Wax

Other worst film nominees are horror movie House of Wax, starring Paris Hilton, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo and Dirty Love, which starred ex-Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy.

1. Ha! I have to give a make-believe"award acceptance speech" in my public
speaking class tonight. The text suggested a "sports award," "pulitzer prize," etc. I'm giving myself a Razzie. I can't be serious with an assignment as cheesy as that.

2. Paris Hilton was the only good thing about "House of Wax"
That is, her death scene. The entire audience cheered when the killer javelined that rusty pole through her head.

6. I thought Cruise was pretty good in WOTW...
Saw him again last night in Born On The 4th Of July and he was good; although when he's playing...TOM CRUISE!, he stinks...

18. agreed - WOTW was pretty good
the only thing that annoyed me were the two who played his kids -- especially the little girl.

7. These Razzie jackasses need lives worse than I do.
I mean, I don't disagree that any of the films or actors they mentioned were disappointing, but the worst? Bullshit. The Razzies are just name-dropping freeloaders. I'd rather read about the fashion awards or the latest fashion faux pas than anything these idiots say. And I'd rather pour lemon juice on cancor sores than hear anything about fashion faux pas.

If they really want to give awards for the worst of the year, then make it honest and actually find the worst of the year, don't single out someone they think it's cool to insult just because they want their name in a headline.

8. Tom. . . is that you?
That's fine, I think that the Razzies are all in fun, and are good for a giggle, that's all. I think that if they went for the very, very worst, they would be naming movies and actors that nobody has hear of.

9. Oh, you're one of the Razzie supporters, eh?
My idea of fun doesn't come at others' expense. I can have plenty of fun without insulting people or their taste in films. These guys are just jackasses. I'll bet they vote Republican. If not, they should, they have the same insecure need to run other people down to prove their worth.

They are the ones who claim they are giving awards for the worst performances. Yet they don't. So they are liars as well as jackasses.

10. Wow, you're serious about this.
Look friend, I hate to tell you this, but most comedy is based on insulting somebody, or group, running them down, insulting them in one way or another. Look at Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, etc. etc. But I guess that you dislike the Razzies because they run down people you like. That's fine, you can hate them if you want.

But you've got to admit, when Cruise jumps up and down on a couch, babbling like an auctioneer on crack, all while on national TV, the guy is just leaving himself wide open for every comic in the country. It's like shooting fish in a barrel it's so easy.

13. Yes, I'm serious
If they want to do standup or bill themselves as a celebrity roast, then they should. They bill themselves as the "Worst of the Year" awards. So that's how I judge them. They are freeloading, rude jackasses, and comparing what they do to Richard Pryor or George Carlin is an insult to greatness. A comedian doesn't use mockery just to get a laugh, he uses mockery to point out something about society, the world, or whatever. There is no message in these awards. It's just a bunch of freeloading jackasses who want their name in lights but have no talent to get them there on their own. Like Dennis Miller. I'll bet he loves the Razzies.

And it has nothing to do with what actors I like or dislike, or with this year versus past years. It has to do with my basic philosophy that scorn and ridicule are not liberal values.

20. Well, I think what they're doing is pretty much tounge in cheek
And that you are taking this all a bit too seriously. However, hey, it's all opinions that we're trading here.

Anyhoo, about the Pryor, Carlin, etc. comparison, I wasn't comparing the per se, what I was stating is that most comedy, from Pryor on down to the Razzies, is based on making fun of somebody, some group, running them down, even downright insulting them. This is simply a truism of any comedy. Listen to Pryor, who is he making fun of? A lot of his humor was based around making fun of white people. Look at movies like Airplane, they poke fun at different ethnic groups, different religious groups, and *gasp* other movies. Carlin, Carlin is/was great at poking fun at religions, all of them. This is what comedy is all about, picking out some something from a person, a group, or cultural phenomenon like movies, and poking fun at it. This is what the Razzies are doing friend, just following in the great comedic tradition. How good they are at this is an individual thing, but you cannot be pissed at for poking fun at movie stars without being pissed at virtually every other comedian for poking fun at various other groups.

You may not like it, but this IS what comedy is all about.

14. Little hint for you, if they were Republican, they probably would NOT
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 03:53 PM by ET Awful
have given a Razzie to Bush for appearing as himself in Fahrenheit 9/11. (They most likely wouldn't have had Rumsfeld, Rice, Britney Spears (for her gum-snapping endorsement of Dubya), etc. as nominees either).

16. So not only do you attack folks when you don't know what you're talking
about and hurl accusations with no basis in fact, but you label anyone who doesn't cater to your whims a "jackass."

Nice. Says much more about you than it does about them.

17. Nope. They are jackasses.
Call me what you want, but the rest of your post doesn't apply to me. I know who they are, I've seen them doing this crap for years, and I consider it to be the worst of society and culture. I call them jackasses for the reasons I've said, not because they don't cater to my whims.

19. I didn't call you anything. . . . you just read into what I said whatever
you wanted to see there.

So tell me, if you've seen them "doing this crap for years" why didn't you know that they had nailed shrubco? I don't know why you feel it necessary to distort facts to present your "argument."

I didn't want it to be remade in the first place.
