many of the most commonly found vegatables start with C. (carrots, cauliflower, corn).

There's no a corn. There's no a lettuce. There's no a broccoli. There's no a alfalfa sprouts. There's no a celery. There's no a asparagus.

But everybody can quickly relate to a carrot.

I think the person who said that the "A" part influences the choice may have a point!

40. I would also say that
cucumber and asparagus, especially, are phallic symbols and could be connected through that root (no pun intended!) as well. Just think long, narrow......

Tomatoes often represent phallic symbols as well, but women mostly.

And yes, after a couple of seconds of saying "six, six, six, six...." it either starts sounding like "sex" or "sick" in which case your connotations to the subject are in the front of your mind and you will call that to mind first.

Of course, I'm guessing completely, and would love to have a real life shrink explain it to us. :)

62. Spoiler
It's a good trick with a simple explanation...

The number exercise creates stress in the subject's mind and for some reason the mind focuses on the colour orange when in the stressful state. Carrot's are one of the few orange vegatables.

The trick also works if you ask someone to think of a colour or some other item where you can be reasonably assured that there is only one choice that is coloured orange.

71. I said George W. Bush...
Just kidding, I said carrot. Carrots are smarter and more interesting than Chimpie anyway.
Not to mention that I would feel a whole lot safer with a carrot running the country.

73. I said carrot, BUT -- This is how this trick really works ...
I said carrot and was momentarily freaked out. But by posting this in a thread, madokie, and letting people respond, you have exposed how this trick actually works.

Notice that 98% of respondents on this thread did not say carrot -- it was not even close.

The carrot response so far is about 10 compared to 40 other responses. In other words in fact 98% of people do not say carrot. Given that some responses were ambiguous, I would guess that between 25% and 33% of respondents actually said carrot.

But the people who responded carrot will be freaked out by the coincidence and believe that this is freaky, weird, powerful etc. Those people, believing that the test somehow primed them to think carrot, will then propogate the trick around the internet.

But in fact, Americans eat a surprisingly small variety of vegetables regularly -- carrots, brocoli, lettuce, tomatoes (but as in this thread, a lot of people will disqualify that in their minds as a fruit).

In fact, without the 666 stuff, without any preparation whatsoever we could expect about the same proportion of people -- on this thread, no more than about 25% to 33% -- to say carrot, simply because carrot is 1 of the three or four most common vegetables that people regularly eat.

But, as I said, the 25-33% who responded carrot, will be highly motivated to pass this around the internet, bolstering the false idea that the test somehow primes you to say carrot.

repeating it quickly bringing up the closeness to the word "Sex"......leading to the image of the veggie "carrot".....

90. I thought of carrot.
Carrot is a common veggie. I guess that's why this test assumes most people would think it.

What's weird is that I look at the results people have posted and only about 25% of people thought of carrot. Weird, eh?

In retrospect, it actually makes sense, because of all the vegetables I could think of off the top of my head, eggplant has the shape most similar to the shape of the number 6.

Guess I'm just weird that way.
