When I am depressed I eat, eat, eat! |
|
My husband moved out last week, and we have two boys who are very confused right now. I feel on the verge of tears round-the-clock and all I want to do is eat. I really don't want to gain back the 15 pounds I lost recently but I need some comfort. I know it may sound trivial to worry about what I eating when my life is a mess, but right now I am really just trying to deal.

I know, years ago when I was depressed that's all I wanted to do too. I ate my way into obesity, then didn't give a damn about myself. Please TAKE CARE of you in this trying time. If you must eat, ( I know I know), try to eat healthy snacks. Your good health depends on it. Your boys depend on you.
lots of 's coming your way. I'm sorry you're going through this right now. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and all that, ... no it's not a freight train.

If you're gonna eat, can you focus on healthy foods? Or put up a pic of yourself to remind you to care for yourself in other ways?
I think the hardest thing when we're in pain is to just sit there and acknowledge the pain. That's what my counselor told me, many years (and many pounds) ago. Food is short-term comfort, long-term problem. :(
What else gives you comfort? Can you try to focus on that instead?
You're in my thoughts (and if you don't mind, my prayers).

for the kind words and thoughts. So far I have been able to hold it together but I'm slowly starting to feel myself fall completely apart.

6. I think most people have something they turn to. |

My friend also eats, eats, eats. Well, he used to. He recently had gastric bypass surgery because he weighed over 400 pounds because of it. I tend to sleep, sleep, sleep. If I can't then I have to do something else to distract myself. Is it possible to distract yourself from eating? I guess that something would require your concentration and your hands. Do you play a musical instrument, crochet, etc? I know when I'm depressed I have a hard time making myself do anything, so I can certainly commiserate. :(

like carrots and veggies you can slice up. Diva, I'm so sorry for you and your boys. I've got tears in my eyes. Your little family will be in my thoughts.

I would try not to worry about it right now. There is so much more for you to focus on. I understand the "eat as comfort" mentality, and it's not always a bad thing to give in. DO keep healthier snacks around (lots of precut veggies and fruits for easy snacking), or make your favorite comfort foods somewhat healthier (mashed potatoes made with skim milk, for example, or muffins made with oatmeal and whole wheat flour), but don't beat yourself up if you do find yourself reaching for food.
Is there anyone nearby you feel close to who can be your emotional support right now? A sister or a friend? It may help you to be strong for your boys if you have a friend who can be strong for you.

13. I am sorry to hear about how distressed you... |
|
and it is understandable to turn to comfort foods....but I would do as other suggest and try to make it healthy stuff...
DU is also a good distraction and be sure to take some time out with your kids....take walks with them outside (if weather permits)...do stuff to get you moving about....exercise does help work out stress too!!!

My girlfriend of almost a year and a half broke up with me yesterday, I'm still too sick and numb to eat at all. I know about the crying round the clock...it's more or less what i've been doing.

a serious depression compels me to smoke - it's always a battle for me to stay away from those damn things. Divanne, allow yourself a bit of comfort food but remember you need to stay healthy and strong for your boys. Keep talking to us, we care.
