Meditation. Could somebody recommend a good beginners book about it?
I have been becoming more and more interested in meditation but I don't know the first thing about it.

Could any DUers recommend a good beginners' book that offers good explanations and instruction?

Thanks

Page one - philosophy, where I'm coming from. Page two - meditations. Starts simple and builds from there. Most of the stuff takes longer to read than to do. The Buddha insturcted people to meditate, read scriptures and do good works. They compliment and potentiate each other. www.shambhudance.com. :hi: :)

2. I'm currently using this:
It's a "kit" by Shambala publishing (whom I respect enormously), complete with a workbook and CDs with guided meditations. It's been extremely helpful for me.

5. Buddha had the same problem until he posted on an internet message board
You get to nirvana the same way you get to Carnegie Hall. Negative reactions to bad jokes and sarcasm hopefully fall by the wayside.

8. If the Brazilian joke is posted, and no one is there to read it
Is it still tiresome?

9. I highly recommend "Mindfulness in Plain English"
by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana. I thought the instructions were excellent and clearly written. The general style is Vipassana. More here
