The suspense is killing me (potential job) |
|
Last week, I interviewed with an agency for a job. The company was looking for someone to start this week, so they let me know that they would be calling my references that day. One of the references I listed called me to confirm that they had been called. On Friday, I e-mailed and asked if there was any word, there wasn't, but he was sure we'd hear by today. He e-mailed me this afternoon to say that the account rep is visiting the company tomorrow, so I'll either have an interview or find out that they used another agency. (The first person they sent out there didn't work out well, so it's feasible they got someone from another agency.)

1. You're lucky to even get that. |

Getting these lamewads on search committees to call references these days is like pulling teeth. I've been to several interviews and none of my references ever get called. A friend of mine told me tonight that when he interviewed for his current job, he had to badger the search comittee chair to get them to call his references, and when he finally suceeded, that's what got him the job. These people on hiring committees have no clue what it is they are doing -- HR 101: references are the single most important indicator of an applicant's mettle.

I've been unemployed since May...I've only gotten a handful of interviews (in this "booming economy"), and this is the first time that my references were called. This is a three month contract job, with a chance of turning permanent, but there's a catch. In three months, the company is moving to another location, on the complete opposite side of Houston from where I live now.
