Ladies (or gentleman if that's your thing), Do you wear makeup?

Just curious. I wear a small amount most of the time. A little moisterizer with sunscreen, blush, eyeliner, and lipstick (but not always the lipstick). However, I'm a definate minimalist about it.

Clear lip gloss, eyeliner on lower lid and a little mascara. I don't think it makes much difference though.

I put "pack it on like Tammy Faye" since I have to wear foundation for various reasons. Sunscreen is not enough. And tinted moisturizer is not enough -- ask your derm if you doubt me. I can see now that the places where I used foundation plus sunscreen (face and neck) are much less sun-damaged than the places where I used sunscreen only (chest and arms). Also, I make sure to put brown or another dark eyeshadow to protect my eyelids from burning when I'm going to be out in the sun for a long time.

As far as make-up to add color to the face, there is little purpose to this after around age 40. It won't look right anyway so why bother unless it's going to be for a photograph or another situation where it will look OK, like an extremely dark restaurant.

Years ago, when I was an impressionable teen, I read some foolish advice in a fashion magazine about wearing less make-up at the beach or in the sun. I tried it once. Getting sunburned on your eyelids is not the way I care to live my life. I think it doesn't really matter in some bar what or if you're wearing a lipstick and eye make-up but out in the sun, you need that protection.


Just my two cents. I'm uncomfortable when people try to make wearing make-up a political issue; trust me, when someone is wearing heavy make-up, there is a reason, be it skin disease or (in the case of some of the much older ladies) an inability to see well enough to understand what the heavy make-up looks like.

talk about "lots of makeup." Plenty of people I know actually wear several layers of concealer/foundation/blending powders, yet end up look more natural than others wearing far less.

Lot's of make-up to me, means caked on and not blended, or very extreme bright rouge/blush or more commonly, heavy, heavy eyeliner and bright, heavy eyeshadow....

12. LOVE makeup! Especially LIPSTICK, can't live w/o it!

I can go with mascara, powder, light blush but I've got to have my lipstick! During the day it's a nice lipliner with gloss (usually MAC C-thru) a great look for the day and can use different liners, all shades. I have women stop me to ask me where I got my lipstick and I gleefully tell them my little secret.

For the most part, makeup, hairdos and even moisturiser are a waste of time, money and effort. I live in a very wet climate and I spend my weekends in a rain forest.

All that said, I'm not immune to a bit of frippery now and again, and I adore an occasion to put on a fancy dress and gussy up for a particularly wonderful man.

That's what I jokingly call it. I wore make up in college. I didn't wear it for a while when I came to my current place of business. There is enough gender discrimination and harassment there as it is. One day, a female coworker made me up for fun in the manner that she does her make up. That was a very high anxiety day. Everyone looked at me differently. I had a couple of different discussions with people if I should wear make up or not. Some said that I should not because to try to be equal there, I cannot appear to be drawing attention to my "difference". My father said that professional women should not appear to be superficially "girly". A couple of others, in contrast, said that it is important to wear make up to retain one's "feminimity" in a masculine dominated environment. I didn't wear it for a while. Then I tore my contacts and wore my glasses for a couple weeks. Even though I look like a mega geek in them, I felt naked without them. I decided that I would look better with a little color around my eyes. In the mean time, I had discussed the make up question with my former boss at another company who had originally told me that it is important to avoid be a "sex object" at my workplace if I wanted to be taken seriously. When I talked to her about the make up, she said that it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to wear make up for her own reasons. Now, I wear subtle eye make up and moisturizer.

I have a serious lipstick addiction. I always feel as though I'm one lipstick away from lipstick nirvana. Then, if I find a truly good one...I have to buy several because I get all insecure that it will be discontinued. I'm bordering on Rush's Oxy problem...only with makeup.

to 2-3 times a year. I usually spend an hour in there. I also try to limit my Ulta trips. A couple of times a year I go through all my loot, pick out the stuff I'm not going to use, and give it my daughter and her friends. Otherwise, my house might explode. I rationalize by figuring it's cheaper than therapy...and it's fun.

Has anyone tried the Bare Minerals makeup? I know it has an impressive endorsement from the Skin Cancer Foundation, and the pure pigment stuff (of which there are many brands) is supposed to give better, more natural coverage without feeling heavy--but I'm also skeptical of anything on an infomercial.

So--any reviews of the stuff?

Started in San Francisco almost 30 years ago, so it's pretty well-established stuff. The infomercial is the first time I saw it, and was very intrigued by it.

I started using it over a year ago. It's pefect for me. I have very fair redhead skin. Liquid base usually looks terrible on me. Plus, it covers my freckles which I don't really want. So, I tried Bare Minerals. You don't look made-up but it will cover veins, dark circles, etc. Very quick to use. I use a big brush with a little of the lightest color all over my face. Then follow-up with a small brush (using the same color) as concealer. It's very natural but my skin looks more even. Plus, it wears well throughout the day. You don't end up with caking or creasing. There is a "mineral veil"finishing "powder" that you're supposed to use over the base. But I don't. I found it unnecessary. I didn't buy it from the infommercial. I bought it from Ulta...if there's one close to you, go there and test the samples. I don't care for the blushes or eyeshadows. They disappear on my skin. Good luck. It's a little pricey. So you might want to try before you buy.

This is one of those "boy, I didn't know tjdee was so shallow" posts, but my entire life, I'd see black ladies coming in and out of the beauty shop, their hair done to the nines, being there all day long, and their faces bare as...something really bare. Big pet peeve, always looks half done to me. Like "I really care about my appearance! Eh, actually I don't give a shit."

And, some men think they don't like makeup, but they do. In college we'd get near blows (fake, friendly ones, LOL) with our guy friends complained about how long we took to get ready, and why couldn't we sport the "natural look". They proceeded to name two or three girls who definitely WERE NOT sporting it. They didn't believe us.

These days, after the kid, I only wear lipgloss and face powder--if I feel like it. Want to add blush, actually, but I can't find a 'natural' shade. When I go out, I'll add eyeshadow and foundation.

and the only reason I use mascara is because I am blonde and am constantly told I look tired if I don't use mascara.
