1. It strikes me as humorous...
That Antonin Scalia was confirmed unanimously by the Senate. By comparison, the Democrats put up a good fight in opposing Alito, given that they are an opposition party. I think some people expect everyone Bush nominates to be filibustered. Good luck with that.

A little perspective is always worth the effort.

2. I blame the retiring justices for the ensuing shitstorm that will be
the United States.

4. Unfortunately, it amounts to the same thing, in perspective.
Confirmation with no extended debate, despite the hindsight we've supposedly gained with Scalia on the court.

With the current state of the nation, the party doesn't deserve "nice try." Kerry and Kennedy do, but perhaps not Feinstein, who jumped on the filibuster wagon a bit late.

I'm usually the first person to defend the variety of positions in the party, but good golly, if we can't agree on keeping Alitos off the bench, we'll only get more of them. And we'll deserve them.

5. I only wish I could say:
"Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out", but we need every vote we can get. :eyes:

6. I said it in a GD Alito thread, but have since PM'd
the person with a more conciliatory note ...
