I need to get a laptop for work that I can take to Europe and S. America. Do you have any suggestions? Also, what should I get--I need to get data off and onto DC-Roms, am not a video gamesperson, but also want to pick up music for my iPod. Light, but durable are essential. Thanks for any help on this--there are so many choices out there.

Since you're already iPodding, I'd tell you to go with a mac laptop, depending on your budget. My Mac love is reinforced by every positive review that comes out of Consumer Reports.

My employer is Word and Excel based and I don't want to have to do too much dinking around, as formatting Word can be a drag, as it is. From the little I have seen of the Macs, they are certainly alluring.

and your documents are viewable/modifiable cross-platform, or they should be. If you create a word doc at home and your work computer won't read it, then your work computer needs an upgrade.
