14. I'm utterly hideous on M.S.N.
Not so much forgetting how to spell words, but typos which I send without checking. More haste less speed I suppose - but I'm an impatient sod.

11. Here's the trick I use:
"c" comes before "s" and 1 comes before 2. There's only 1 "c" and 2 "s's"....

do you get it? that's how I remember, anyway...

same thing goes for the word "tomorrow".

Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 03:03 PM by Richardo
One 'n' in the first syllable and 2 'n's in the second. Tres facile!

(if you put in 2 't's I can't help you.)

22. My spelling used to be atrocious - due to dyslexia.
I found that finding out why words have the spellings which they do aided me dramatically.

In the case of necessary (and variations such as necessarily), the major point is the single and double letters. If one looks at the 'c' this has to be a single letter, it is a soft c, and is softened by the e which follows it - that e would not soften a double c (this principle is shown best in accelerate where the two cs are pronouced differently because the latter is softened by the e). That's how I know how to spell it at least.

It's also why you Americans might be onto something with your misspelling of sceptic - but don't tell anybody I admitted that.

I'm tempted to recommend grammar check...but I would only embarrass myself if you turned out to be too young to be a grammar.

26. Actually, it should be
I can't spell "necessarily" without using Spell Check.

She was referring to a specific word, not the entirety of her spelling ability.

:P

Her grammar was correct, with the exception of the missing quotation marks.
