My Uncle Ronnie just died.
I am in shock. I was named after him. He wasn't my "blood" uncle, his wife (my aunt Pat) is my mom's sister.

They were going have their 50th wedding aniversary in April. We were plannng a big party. Now this.

I just can't believe that he's gone. It appears to have been a stroke. I am so freaked out right now.

:cry::cry:

15. Thanks y'all.
We were supposed to drive down to Bakersfield this weekend for my birthday .... now I don't really feel like celbrating.

Uncle Ronnie was probably the smartest of my whole family ...... he was a democrat LONG before everyone vote up and saw the light (except me .. I was always a Democrat).

18. Like a second father.
When I was younger he used to throw me and brother up in the air. He was a big ol' strapping guy .... we could see the roof of the house when he'd do that.

This is a guy that played tennis up to this day. When on long distance bike rides. He was over 70 and still could whip ass on the tennis court.

He just loved my partner and always gave us big hugs when we saw him. He had a cold at Christmas, so I didn't get to see him much. But he came by my mom's place to pick up a card table and I am so glad I got to see him.

I'm like a zombie right now. I can't imagine what my aunt and cousin's are going through right now.

77. Ronny...your uncle sounds so much like my favorite uncle that
it is scary. When I was a young boy -- about three or four, my father was in the military and was overseas. My mom and I lived with my aunt and uncle for about six months before we were able to join him. My uncle was always like a father to me when I was little. As a matter of fact, I felt closer to him than I did my Dad.

My uncle is now in his early 70's and his idea of fun is cutting firewood with his chainsaw. He can out work men half his age.

Give your aunt and your cousins a call...let them know you are thinking of them.

from what I've heard so far, he didn't suffer. It happened very fast. My step-dad said that he didn't even make it to the hospital. If ya gotta go, go fast I say.

30. A sports nut!
To the point it would drive me up the wall. But he mellowed as he got older. He and my dad played football together in jr college.

A real nature lover too. I swear he was really Ule Gibbons (the Grapenuts man). He loved to fish and hike.

The ironic part of being named after him was we were total opposites. Like I said he loved the country and nature. I was always the city type. He loved sports and the only sport I watch is the arrivals at the Academy Awards. But he loved me just the way I am and visa versa.

35. I'm a real "nature lover" myself, but I never understood FISHERMEN.
They are a real breed apart!

I love hiking and camping and all,
and I used to hunt alot when I was younger.
But the whole 'fishing' thing was just way more 'zen'
than I could handle.

Of course, the last few times I went hunting squirrels,
I never shot any.
It became more interesting to just see how motionless
I could sit, to see how many squirrels came out
and how close they came to me.

I think fishing might be like that, if you enjoy standing in water?

They stuck it out through thick and thin.

My mom told my aunt today "he was one of the best men I've ever met" .... my aunt said "he must have been to put up with me". I had to agree ..... I LOVE my aunt with all my heart .... but like I told my hubby "we Richardson women (my grandmother maiden name) ain't easy to deal with".

I had time to get used to both my brother and my father dying. They both were ill and their deaths were not a shock. But Uncle Ronnie's death has took me by suprise.

On a happier note .... my SO had to spill the beans about "suprise" party for my birthday on friday w/ my old high school pals in Bakersfield. Now I have to change some work related stuff to be able to make it.
