Is there something wrong with Limewire? |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 07:21 PM by bettyellen
my little icon bounces, and then stops, and tries again, fitfully.. until it sputters out. no error messages, but no launch of the program either. what's up with that? maybe i should dump it and download another copy?

11. You need to delete your preference file.. (I think) |
|
It might have become corrupt.. This is the first thing you should do when apps act funny. I'm stuck on Windows for the moment.. I think the pref file should be in ~/User/Library/Preferences/ delete all the things in that folder that have limewire in them.

17. The file to delete should be named something like.. |
|
limewire.plist
I would search for that and trash it. It is just a simple XML file that will be re-generated the next time you start Limewire.. (with defaults)
Keep in mind.. If you deleted mail.plist you would lose your e-mail settings. Assuming you use Mail.app. None of the settings in Limewire should be damaging to lose. Just so you know you will lose any custom settings for Limewire. If you didn't change anything you will be OK.

I'm having the same problem with Limewire, actually, and I don't seem to have a "limewire.plist" anywhere.
On edit: NEVER MIND, I deleted it and it still won't work. :(

26. I would just delete everything with Limewire in it and re-install. |
|
I'm not on OS X right now so I'm guessing. Delete it all and re-install. Except if your downloaded files go to something like /downloads/limewire..
Hey, I forgot what puke tasted like.. Bush is talking about health care.. I don't like the taste of puke.
If you are having problems with OS X and Limewire too I would give it a few days... The network might be screwed.. The odds of you both having problems are slim..

You can google limewire+problems and see what pops up, seems easy to grab tech assist like that.

However, my issue is that PPC-based Java apps are incompatible with the Intel Macs. Curse of the early adopter I guess.
If your Mac is a regular old one then I'd say try trashing the Preferences file.

27. I loved limewire but I got rid of it |
|
First virus I picked up (AVG found it though) I realized I was messing with trouble.
I was talking with the techie at Best Buy where I bought my computer and he said most of the problems he's finding these days are usually viral related and he's finding limewire on those computers most of the time.
But it was great to find some obscure LZ stuff out there and a few near impossible songs I really wanted to find. I guess you could say I used it and tossed it aside quickly after I was done!

no luck. i'm scared to go back to system 9. i get a lot of problems when i do that, and the limewire never worked so well. i want to get rid of this java update now, dammit. my disk utility doesn't work anymore either, it loses it's connection to the library when it's starts checking or repairing permissions. it almost sounds as if i know what i'm talking about. LOL. and i don't. i wonder if it's all related. uggggh.

I had it at one point also...but I uninstalled it. I subscribe to Rhapsody instead. Plus...the Feds are watching it like a hawk now, so you can get into big trouble with it if you aren't careful.
