It comes and goes. Fortunately, it doesn't get really bad, but it is annoying.

3. I had it in my upper arm. |
|
With every heartbeat, it felt like someone was plunging a knife into my arm. After about four days, not being able to sleep, I sat on the edge of my bed and bawled. The pain can wear on you.
Get to a doctor as soon as possible.

NSAIDs, heat and rest are the usual treat, but consult a doctor for real medical advice, which this post contains none of. Other than to consult a doctor.

7. No, No, don't see a doctor! I had bursitis (and a few other things) |
|
wrong with my shoulder (well, a LOT of other things, but bursitis was one of them), and ended up with the outboard three and a half inches of my colarbone being sawed off, two tendons being resected and glued on to places they weren't before, and a lot of other stuff you don't want to hear about, and that I don't want to talk about.
A routine 45-minute acromioplasty turned into seven hours in the OR, and three days in the hospital.
Followed by a WORSE operation two years later.
Do NOT let anyone cut your shoulder!

8. whew, that's disgusting. |
|
but does it feel better now than before the operation. I have arthritis and tendonitis in my shoulder. But the ortho guy just gave me RX and wanted to give me a steroid shot, which I refused. It still hurts every day but I can live with it...better than cutting!

9. God, no, it does NOT feel better. The second surgery was supposed |
|
to repair the nerve damage caused by the first, and was even more invasive (think in terms of three large muscles cut in half and / or removed from their moorings just to get to the site of the nerve damage, and three holes drilled in my shoulder blade to reattach them), and didn't work any better that the first surgery.
I don't mind telling you that this stuff damn near killed me; if I didn't have a family, I'd have been off the bridge when it was really bad four years ago.
And it's not much better now. But I still have my family, so I'm not going off the bridge. Not soon, anyway.
NEVER let them cut you.

11. It's Possible to "Just Say No" To Surgery |
|
I've refused surgery for my severe carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and ulnar neuropathy - despite being unable to treat them with tradtional NSAIDs and corticosteroids. The surgery for the ulnar neuropathy is particularly horrendous and takes healthy people a year to recover from. I know my own injuries and my own body well enough to know that surgery is not the answer (and my doctors agreed with my assessment).
Surgery is usually not indicated for simple bursitis, though; refraining from the activities that brought it on and rest/anti-inflammatories is usually enough for most (not all) cases.
