Wow what a great movie. I couldn't believe the stark portryal they did of Johnny Cash. I laughed and cried and came away with a new understanding of the man in black. My only minor complaint is that I wish they would have done more scenes with the tour caravan. I thought the guy that portrayed Jerry Lee Lewis nailed the part. Other than that the movie was a perfect snap shot look inito the life of the legend that was Johnny Cash.

3. I'm a huge Cash fan, and I really loved it |
|
When I first heard Joaquin Phoenix got the part, I thought "What the--?!" But damn if he didn't nail the Man in Black. And Reese Witherspoon was awesome, as well.
This movie really begs to be seen in a movie theater or in a home theater setting with a damn nice surround system. The music and the sound are amazing. The Folsom scenes particularly gave me chills.

What did you think of Jack's death. I had to look away from the screen. And what did you think of Cash's old man.

The death was pretty awful, but I was afraid they were going to show the actual accident. Thank God they didn't do that.
I understand that in real life, it was even more horrible. Jack actually lingered more than a week before he died.
Cash's dad was something else. What was more amazing to me was the fact that the Terminator 2 robot, Robert Patrick, played him so well. I couldn't believe it was the same guy. He was just terrific. Hell, the WHOLE CAST was terrific.

I loved the scene where he and Sam Phillips are arguing about him playing at the prison. "Your's is a christian fan base they'll have a problem with you playing to convicts in order to cheer them up." "Than there not the right kind of Christian." I loved the way how they portrayed the religious right in that movie.

10. Robert Patrick is great. I loved him on X-Files |
|
Even though the show was going downhill at that point.
Walk the Line was excellent. My husband has been listening to the Folsom Prison album ever since.

But it is rare that we actually get out of the house to see a show in an actual theater. :hi:

|

11. And Phoenix also learned how to play guitar for the role |
|
That they did their own singing just made the movie all that more special. It really added an "immediacy" to the concert/studio scenes that you just don't get in other musical biopics with dubbed music.
Reese Witherspoon should be given a recording contract. She has a better voice than half of the women singing in country today.
