Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 01:20 PM by baby_mouse
It's been amazing good fun being on DU for the past year or so but I am spending WAYYYYY too much time on this site...

I promised myself that this year I'd go and become a photographer properly, and it may be that this is starting to happen. I can't really afford to spend every lunch break scanning the DU headlines...

I won't be away forever, though...will be back when I'm a little more settled in my career choice...

Will miss all you dear folks...

XXXX

9. Here's a little hint: There's no money in photography.
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 07:23 PM by HypnoToad
Not in itself. You need to use it with another field. On its own, it's useless. I know that firsthand.

Now add in that photographs are WANTS and not NEEDS. People need food. They do not need a picture of butterflies approaching a purple flower, no matter how good the picture is (I've taken one that had MANY people saying is worthy for National Geographic). Unless you know how to digest paper covered in toxic pigment inks or whatever media you plan on printing on...

I've been in career classes with people LEAVING photography because there is no market. Sadly, they're looking into IT (and are age 50 or older) because they think there's a market for them (oops!)...

Now add in this mickey mouse cheap digital photography crap that makes average folks think they can make a living from it and wince. A nation of photographers? I highly doubt it... (I'm not comparing you to them. I know many people who do digital snaps and I can point out all sorts of technicalities I'd have done differently...)
