my cat died

His name was Jeffrey. He was an awesome cat.

It's so weird...he seemed completely fine when I left for work yesterday, and hadn't seemed sick at all, in fact. My girlfriend called around 1:30, hysterical, saying he was dead. She came out of the back room, and there he was just laying on the floor, no sign of what might have happened, but very dead. It took me a couple times hearing it to even believe it--I mean, out of everyone in the household, he was the last I expected to go. I figured he would outlive me, even. He was only about six years old.

It really is mysterious...no warning whatsoever. Hopefully the vet will be able to tell us something next week. It doesn't make it any easier one way or the other, but we also have a dog in the house, so if there was something he got into we need to find out about it.

It is very difficult to lose beloved friend and family member.

I had a neighbor whose cat suddenly died at a young age (about 3 years old). They determined that she had cardiomyopathy - she'd had a massive heart attack and died instantly. It was just a genetic defect she was born with and there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it.

32. We had that happen once.

Turned out that it was urinary blockage which can be symptomless and kill quickly. My husband was getting dressed to take the cat to the vet for his regular checkup. When he came out of the bedroom...just a few minutes from the time he had been petting the cat and talking to him...Al was laying on the floor dead.

I'm so sorry it happened to you. Bad enough when you know it's going to come, or when there's a vehicle involved, but no obvious reason tends to have you beating yourself up. Please don't. If it happened that fast, there's probably nothing anyone (including a vet) could have done.

36. Awww, RIP Jeffrey. What a wonderful kitty face!

One of our beloved kitties died rather suddenly - no symptoms that I could tell, but he apparently had a fast-growing intestinal tumor that burst one day while I was at school, and he was dying when I got home. It was horrible, but the vet said there was really no way to detect the tumor since it grew so fast (though if I'd been home when it happened, maybe I could have gotten him to the vet's in time).

I'm sorry Jeffrey died. But he knew he was loved, I have no doubt, and he loved you.

This picture of him is just beautiful. Sometimes you just never know why things happen like this. My sister's 5 year old cat died during the night last Tuesday without any warning at all.
