I just saw Capote.
Oscarworthy performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

1. That would probably explain why he was nominated.
;)

6. Oh
I didn't realize that's how it worked, I thought the nominations were done on a lottery basis and then the nominees battled it out in a mudpit while the judges hired the Key Grips to throw popcorn at the battlers.

In fact the lottery theory explains why Arnold Schwarzenegger has never won an Oscar, his number hasn't been drawn yet, because you know he'd kick some ass if he was in a ring with Steve Buscemi, Tom Hanks, and Phillip Seymour fucking Hoffman. But their days are numbered.

/bored out of my fucking mind

7. Actually, a lottery would explain it better.

3. How was the movie part of it. Is it worth seeing?
I have loved some of Capote's writing but never was too crazy about him.

5. OK - thanks
The other movie I want to see is Geo. Clooney's movie about Edward Morrow.

I think Clooney is up for 3 academy awards - in three different movies? That is amazing.

8. The movie was ok
But what took away from it for me was that the last 30 to 40 minutes, I was literally saying to myself "oh for god's sake wrap it up"! It dragged on.

The other movie you mention further down Good Night and Good Luck is excellent. I'm already saying Clooney for the Screenplay Oscar, and I wouldn't mind it for Best Picture (I've seen all the nominated ones).

I am a force to be reckoned with on my Oscar pools :)

9. Hoffman was great...
This and In Cold Blood with Robert Blake would make an interesting double feature...
