Poll question: Do you ride public transportation to work? If so then why?
Yes, I ride the San Diego Trolley due to horrendous parking issues at work. 6700 employees and 2000 parking spaces. Plus I work in the "Barrio/Logan" section of SD where car theft is a big business. My 2006 Mustang GT would be jacked and stripped or taken to Tijuana in a jiffy.

Why do you ride the bus/train/trolley/light rail to work?

2. Lemme 'splain...
I live in the PNW and we have two major things against us up here:

1) lack of sufficient, efficient (time wise), mass transportation
2) Horrible winter weather that makes biking to work uncomfortable at best, dangerous at worst, this time of year.

I would love a train that spanned the entire peninsula where I live or even to be able to bike to work on a consistent basis, but I can't.

3. No public transport where I live in the country
I live out in the county. I either drive or don't go anywhere.

Plus, I'm too independent-natured to wait for public transport. I rode the bus and the Metro when I lived in DC and I hated every minute of it. I just don't like placing myself in the control of others. :P

7. I really dont mind it. There's a trolley station 3 blocks from my home.
I can park in a secure, guarded lot. Its a 20 minute commute on the "Orange Line" to the main transfer station & 12th & Imperial, where I wait aproximatley 5 minutes for the "Blue Line" train for two stops( aprox. 4 minutes), to the Harborside station thats right directly in front of the main gate of where I work.
I bring a book, my iPod and a thermos full of coffee. And with a monthly transit pass, good for bus and trolley, unlimited, I save $30.00 on what I would pay with a daily round-trip fare.
It works out nicely for me and I dont have to worry about getting to work 1' 1/2 hours early to get a spot in the lots. Or having my car stolen.

9. Well, there really should be an option reflecting the fact that public
transport isn't available.

10. I take the train because it's convenient.
It's also a huge money-saver, because i don't need to waste gas or spend 20 bucks a day to park in downtown Chicago. I'm glad that I'm helping the environment and all that stuff, but it's mainly about convenience.

11. I'm an avid transit commuter
It's about a 45 minute commute, and only under perfect traffic conditions could I expect a car to get me there that fast. The streetcar to the subway station is pretty reliable, and the subway is completely immune to weather-related and other traffic woes.

Plus it's a huge bonus to be able to either read or nap a little on the way to and from work.

And the environmental impact of this choice is just icing on the cake.

12. I walk to work...down the hall
but when I lived in Portland, I relied exclusively on transit for ten years, and even here in Minneapolis, where the transit system is a real letdown after Portland, I take the bus more than most people.

13. Most of the time I bus it
But I do drive once in a while.

The sad thing is that is costs me $4/day to take the bus, and only $5/day to park a block away from work. It's kind of depressing, really.

15. I pay $60.00 a month for a transit pass.
Good for trolley and bus. Unlimited. I let my son use it on weekends.
Its well worth it for me.

16. Love the bus.
My bus pass, my bicycle, and my walking shoes are the strongest holdings in my portfolio.

After that is the Prius.

17. When I worked in downtown Chicago, I rode Metra....
unless I needed to head to the suburbs to visit a client.

Now that I work in the suburbs, I drive.
