Poll question: Will you be watching the Superbowl on Sunday?
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 11:24 PM by omega minimo
After calling for impeachment on Saturday, will your Sunday be devoted to the Big Game? DU will be down for upgrades. What will you be up to?

1. Other. No.
I won't be watching the superbowl. I'll probably rent some movies, maybe watch the halftime 'cause the Stones are playing, and then go back to watching the movie.

If they could win in a blinding snowstorm a few weeks ago, and come from so far behind to make it to the Superbowl...these ARE the guys to watch.

Plus the Detroit energy and the Pittsburgh energy are compatible, and will "feed" off each other. Similar...simpatico...

Sorry, Seahawks. As they say in Pittsburgh street-talk, "Yous gonna lose."

My son invited over to watch it at his place on his 62" HDTV.
Its great for watching football. You see so many more fine details and shadows that you just dont catch on regular broadcast.
He invited his two brothers and me over. Not really a party.

52. What a nice idea :-) As for my dear husband and I . . . we reside in
Kearney, Nebraska. The hardest restaurant to get into here is probably McDonald's at 5:30 on a Friday, LOL. We would never want to go there anyway (both vegans) so that's out. The local Wal*Mart is always choked with ignorati, maybe we could go there on SBS and look for something hideously stereotypical. What a hoot!

39. Puppy Bowl!
I voted "No Way!" Football is overrated and boring, to me. I am going to do what I did last year, and watch the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet. I watched the first one last year, (they played it over and over all day), and it was so entrancing, so enjoyable, I just loved the way they did it. Many group and individual incidents of puppy play on a "football field," with replays and an occasional referee showing up; it really showed the complexity and wonderfulness of a lot of this pup behavior. Not a lot of strategy, though; but best of all--no commercials! If you love dogs and puppies, this was a great thing, as it was just camera and microphone, and low-key music; very little editing and production, so you can just enjoy the puppies. I've been waiting all year for this thing!

I discovered a small mom-n-pop seafood store (was a little gas station) that sells huge po-boys for under 7 bucks, out on Jeff Hwy. I'm gonna get a softshell crab po-boy the next time I go there, AND order some crawfish ($3.99/lb). Yesterday, I had a shrimp po-boy and the day before I had a oyster po-boy. The lady who owns the place gave me about two pounds of jumbo shrimp as lagniappe! :D Then I caught up with a high school friend whom I haven't seen for EONS! :bounce:

If only da rest of dis cuntry knew how good we gots down here when it comes to food... music, dance, spirits, ad infinitum. If another hurricane hits us in a few months I'm either going down with Southern Louisiana or I'll flee to another extremely cool part of the globe. ;)

97. I am as excited as I would be over a corporate merger
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 02:27 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
I used to love professional sports when I was a kid. Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Bill Russell, Johnny Unitas, Jim Taylor, Warren Wells and many others were my idols. I loved the great teams of the Oakland A's with Reggie Jackson, Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, et al.

I know that pro sports have always been big business. But when money became the raison d'etre of pro sports, that's where I gradually stopped watching ANY of it. When, for just a matter of a few dollars more, players no longer had loyalty to their teams, when teams no longer had any loyalty to players, when owners had no sense of obligation to their cities and their fans, when teams started becoming owned by multinational corporations, when agents became almost as famous as the players they represented, when salary caps, signing bonuses, and stadium deals and skyboxes became as big news as the players themselves, that's when I gradually stopped watching.

Maybe it's just middle age that has me in its grip, but I just can't get excited about pro sports anymore. Maybe it's just having lived through too many years of games-after-games. But pro sports just leaves me cold now. If the Pittsburgh Steelers announced a major business deal with the Seattle Seahawks, I wouldn't be any less or more excited about it.

(edited for spelling)

98. "Pro sports just leaves me cold now"
"Back in the day" the scene wasn't plastered with logos and players weren't turned into identical killing machines. Football is a brutal sport anyway-- it's harder for corporate slickness to squeeze all the personality and finesse out of basketball or baseball. You used to be able to SEE individual players as humans, not machines wearing a number.

TV + corporate branding + alkeehol + testosterone + jingoism + bloodsport..................................................
